BLunTSmoKeR , i also used to run low CPU pll around 1.425.. which helped (reduces heat) but too low can hurt linx stability i have noticed in my testing.. so i bumped it up a bit to 1.525 or 1.6 and linx passes for me..

anyway got a new max clock pb today with single stage cooling

    @ Anth Seebel

now that you mention that, since I'm temporarily on stock cooling, I might try to lower it. Reduction in temps will be very welcomed here as I'm crunching at only 45% to help with the heat.

Looks nice moto as you intended to but I doubt that will last a full memory test with 20 runs or more

Most of the 920 D0s hit 4ghz+ 4.2Ghz is very common for 24/7 usage on air.

All core i7s are very much batch related when comes to overclocking and above 4 ghz stability becomes a matter of what you think is stable.

There is no chip that will pass Linx / Prime95 x64 w/ HT ON in Win 7 with maximual FPU stress (mode 1) at 80c at 4700MHz+ - NONE. Under 4.6GHz is as high as they will go for 24/7.

Beside don know any one who runs 24/7 4.7ghz+ or Dice and LN2

Also above 3800mhz is a bit overkill for todays applications...therefore any good mobo and 920 Do is great no need for cherry picked cpu or £ 300 mobo unless you bench and thats what we do here.... lol

Your logic is impeccable but this is XS. If we weren't extreme we would be happy running our i7 920s at stock but this is extreme and that's what we do. I have lowered mine all the way to 4.2 24/7.

    I want to ask.
Does someone have a XEON W3502 with this batch: 3901A.
Because I have the oportunity to get one of those and would be nice to know if it is worthy.

Mi actual cpu a 920 D0 and the batch begins with 49, does 4.2 with 1.36875 vcore on BIOS with HT enable.

    Thanks

I'm using Prolimatech Megahalems, with 2 Scythe SlipStream 1600/1200RPM push/pull with good results. It is keeping my hot w3520 cool&quiet up to 4.3HZ 1.28v.

I have tried a to replace the 1600RPM with a 38mm Scythe Ultra Kaze 2000RPM but i it didn't make much difference on temp. It seams to be performing optimal with "normal funs", but Scythe Ultra Kaze was too noisy and maybe i didn't try hard enough.

TRUE Copper is the "heavy weight " with the best cooling performance, and i was considering to get it. But you better lay down your case, that thingy is 1900g!

Right. No fixed configuration. Depending on the cooling requirements I use 120mm 1 fan or 2 fans in push and pull config. If thats not enough and 4.5ghz or above overclock I take everything out of the caseing and put them on table gives a good 8-10 degree temp drop...

    Therefore
    Config 1. 1 fan
    Config 2. 2 fans
Config 3. 2 fans and outside casing
    Config 4. 1 water...pending...!
    Config 5. Ln2/Dice... nah...

So far went up to 3rd step in coming summer might get water setup.

thanks for the info, I am ordering mine next week. I am watercooled, but I want to get a new case and do a new revision of my build, so i will be air cooled in the mean time so I can do my build with patience Plus im having a small lan party at my friends house in a few weeks and I need my computer to be back in the case. with a air cooler it'll be easier to do so. If I decide to put it back in the case watercooled, I'll have to buy a few things i need first and I don't have much time before the lan party.

Just got an i7 920\EVGA X58 LE up and running the other day, and trying to figure out a few things concerning voltage options.

Ive seen quite a few post saying "QPI\VTT is at ____", and I have CPU VTT and QPI PLL options in BIOS.

I know I have to keep Vdimm within .5v of QPI. So is my CPU VTT actually QPI\VTT, and should I keep Vdimm within that, or is it QPI PLL?

Nice. Was shopping around for the megaharlem When a Thor's hammer dropped in my lap.

I noticed that case design is really important. Negative case pressure is great, what people call positive case pressure (or as I like to call it DAC) works the best. Many high speed exhaust fans and some mid to low range direct air cooling from sidepanel, and low speed for hdd cooling.

My NZXT Zero case I removed two side fans (leaving 2x120 low speeders) and replace the two rear with high speed yates, 80 mm in top (regular old masscool) my temps went up 3-5 degrees just by removing the thumb screws and cracking the door! I imagine the newer stackers cool about as well with their 4x120mm sidepanel option... but all that extra screening leads to less directed air flow.

If you are getting a 8-10c DROP in temps running caseless, you might want to rethink your air flow design in your case

Unless caseless means - by the window in October in the northern hemisphere heh heh

Interested in this myself are I think people with QPI and VTT settings are getting those ridiculously low 4+GHz vcore shots ( that and some clever use of the eleet tuner combined with older versions of CPUz.

My board does not have VTT, either it is linked to QPI (same voltage range after all) or just leads to needing more vcore.

    New to overclocking

Hey I recently purchased a Evga X58 e760 Classified motherboard and have a 920 C0/C1, and 12 gigs of Patriot Viper 1333Ram, i know OCing is Crap Shoot, but does anyone have any standard overclock i can try and maybe tweak from there, i'd be happy with anywhere from 3.8 to 4.0gz
The cooler i'm going to be using is a Corsair H50 watercooling kit.
    Any help is appreciated! Thanks.
