If trying to make a decision on whether or not the buy FC2 read!

For those of you trying to make a decision to buy Far Cry 2, read this, these are the problems the game faces.

-Enemies seem to have perfect aim.

-Enemies seem to sometimes have special power and somehow see you threw things like walls and thick bushes and boardwalks and fire right threw them with perfect accuracy to kill.

-silenced and suppressed weapons seem to make no difference than a un silenced weapon, ex. I was surveying a enemy post when i accidentally fired a suppressed MP5 into the air, I was about 30 or more feet outside the camp barely looking around a tree, when i accidentally fired the whole camp is awakened saying things like "did you hear that?" and "where is he?" not seconds later (i didnt move) they are firing directly at me behind the tree as if they knew exactly where I was. another example was: I snuck into an enemy post (which is luck really), and managed to get into a shack with an enemies back to me, I pulled out my silenced pistol, aimed at his head, and dropped him on the ground, as soon as I did this same thing, the rest started to call out "did you hear that?" and what not, I kept crouched inside the shed, as they were trying to find me (when I say trying I mean, looking for me but walking straight to where I was) and one was on the other side of a wall that didnt have a window, he killed me threw the wall with an ak (god know how he knew I was there and fired so accurately to kill me)....to further this

-enemies seem to have a sixth sense of location, they seem to always know where you are in any circumstance.

-it seems to take a whole lot of bullets to kill an enemy, a clip at least, if not more than that. Basically kill 1 enemy, reload, repeat. Very annoying. and a early pistol has 8 shots, if you try to kill without head shot with that, youll reload twice most likely.

-changing the difficult just changes how fast you die (how freaking stupid)
To explain basically, the hardest mode is like this, imagine COD4, well you are in hardcore mode and the enemies are in regular mode all with the increase life perk. (whatever its called, cant remember)

-there seems to be no way to travel anywhere without confronting multiple enemy posts during missions. These posts also respawn very very fast. Very annoying.

-when you map is out while your in the car, when you get out, its still up, can be very annoying if you get attacked and jump out quickly to defend yourself and the map pops up in your face. sadly this doesnt work the other way around to benefit you. If your map is out outside the car and you get in, it gets put away. odd, and weirdly annoying.

-there is long distance transportation via bus. But, there is one station in the middle and one in each corner, also very annoying, cause the map is rather big and say if you need to reach something between the middle and the corner, your still gonna be walking, driving, and fighting threw atleast 2 to 3 enemy posts to get there...meaning...a long time.

-there was also this time I ran from an enemy post and went to a gun shop quite a distance away and wasnt followed either, I know this for shure. When i bought some things and went outside, there was an enemy truck waiting for me and kill me nearly immediatly upon exiting the gun shop.

-random non realism problem with the game, everyone (npc) in so called Africa seems to refer to distance by miles in the normal american way. Its kilometers over there, not miles!! Think they might would have picked that up over a month of being in Africa.

-I have tested this, there seem to be some mouse acceleration, like bioshock, but not as bad.

-field of view is FREAKING horrible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

-Also, its a free roaming game but sadly you cant freaking approach a camp anyway you want. I was in the middle of a map, doing a mission. Some where North west. middle. I go to climb some rocks to survey and snipe a enemy post. Low and freaking behold a invisible wall keeping from climbing up them....WHAT...THE....HELL!

-shotguns seem to have ridiculous range for the enemies that just is far from realistic. I got killed from enemy shot gun fire (about 3 shots) from a post on the side of the water and I was in a boat prob about 50 feet plus from him down the river.

-weapon reliability. Hugely overdone, weapons seem to break and jam on you very quickly, it gets very annoying. There was a point where my mission objective was pretty far across the map, I first went to a weapon storage place and loaded up, after having to go threw 3 or 4 enemy posts and finally getting to my mission objective my weapons were barely functioning. very shortly after starting my objective attack my weapons blew up in my face leaving me with nothing. picking up weapons is hardly an option cause those will start jamming right away, and it usually takes 3-4 seconds to unjam it, and when it starts to do that, it gets very frequent very fast until it blows up in your face. (every weapon does this). There has been times were a weapon was jamming pretty much at about every 20 bullets or so. Not to mention when you pick up enemy weapons they barely have any ammo in them. in which you need to kill another for more ammo or get to some ammo usually located in the heart of a post, and given the little ammo provided in an enemy weapon (8-15 bullets, not even enough to kill 1 enemy) its very hard to get there.

There is alot to complain about, ubisoft screwed this game up. It could have been great. But its basically a consolized game, half assed to Africa and back. (lol pun)

Dont get me wrong, the graphics are pretty decent. on sunset it looks very pretty, personally i think the sun rays are done a lot better than Crysis. (even though you can adjust that in the editor, but still just doesn't look as realistic and blinding as real life). and interior design seriously looks amazing with graphics on ultra with AA and AF, very stunning, dare I say it, almost as good as Crysis. character models a not bad either, a lot better looking then alot of games I have played, even recently. Its fun to blow stuff up and the fire part is cool.

If you love the game and think with these problems its worth 50 bucks, you have some serious freaking problems!!!

Wow, you typed up just about everything I wanted to haha.

I'm going to continue playing FC2... Cus I guess if nothing else I want to see all the guns and do some of the better missions.

But yeah, I completely agree. The entire game is crippled by little "issues" all over the place. The constantly spawning "random" patrol cars drives me crazy mainly. Can't sit in a vehicle for more than 30 seconds without being assaulted by a jeep that ALWAYS can go twice as fast as you... And then your car breaks down from 5 shots....

then you jump out the car and get killed cause you have a massive map in your face, cause you had your map out in the car and it doesnt close it when you get out. But it tricks you, cause it doesnt pop up until about a second after getting out, oh god that drives me nuts.

seriously! I will prob play it as well to see the rest of the weapons and do the better missions as well. But i cant right now, I am very close to pulling the CD out and breaking it in half.

I missed one thing to say though. I forgot to mention taht even with the reliability upgrades you can purchase, the weapons still jam and blow up in your face too quickly.

Like I said, there has been times where I have gotten to a mission objective with no guns and had to go all the way back to an ammo shack to get more, when I had left the shack and tried to go straight to the objective in the first place. Again, picking up weapons is useless, cause they jam and blow up almost instantly, not to mention they have very little ammo in them, not even enough to kill 1 guy. So if you run out of ammo while be attacked, dont bother trying to get a a gun to pick up to shoot them, charge with the michette if you want to live, i should say a better chance to live, cause not even thats very easy with the perfect aim of the enemy.

    What you guys said +1....

I mentioned in another thread that it reminds me a lot of Boiling Point:Road to Hell, and i stand by that.
Not as bugged as BP was, but the same concept. FPS and RP don't mix too well, not for me anyways.
I tried it and gave it up, Ubisoft screwed up bigtime on this.

    UPDATE! ! !

    missed a couple things.

No prone or lean.... not that it would matter anyway, the enemy would still see you regardless and if you prones and crawled up on a cliff top to snipe, they could hit you just as easily as if you were standing up. The reason I know this is cause i have stood behind a rock and slowly scooted up to just barely peek over it to fire, and as soon as I see the targets head I get a bullet in my face.

Also forgot to mention the AI is kinda retarded, and it doesnt change what so ever based on difficulty. They find cover to fight, but seem to leave that cover for no reason what so ever.

another thing to add. WTF is the deal with the malaria that you have threw out the game. For those of you who haven't played it. You have malaria threw the game, most of it. This starts off on the get go, you have it from the start. and you have to get medicine to heal it. IF you dont use the medicine, it can kill. it lets you know you need to use it by blurring your screen and putting like a yellowish blur dotting film over the screen and flashing and what not, if you go too long without using the medicine you fall down and the same blurring effect happens. Then you run out of medicine and keep falling down and you go to get more from the this guy... and....read this very carefully....He gives you a freaking mission to go to someone else to get more from him cause he doesnt have any.... OMG... WHAT....THE...HELL.

This malaria effect blurring thing can happen at any time, they made it random, so you could be in the middle of a fire fight with 6 enemies and all of a sudden your screen blurs and flashes and smothers your screen with this transparent yellowish dot film type look and then you have to immediately use the pills which takes a good 5 seconds to do. Basically, you die if your in a fight cause of this.

There is no reason for this, its just down right freaking annoying as hell.

I'd like to know why with all those diamonds our lead character here can't buy more than 4 pills for the malaria at once.

It's really ridiculous, an utterly useless gimmick. The very definition of a gimmick frankly. "Do this useless, boring, repetitive task until your eyes bleed
    every couple hours of gameplay."

I really hope somebody, somewhere releases a "mod" that gets rid of many of the obnoxious tasks. Even just tone them down a lot.

I don't really mind if weapons degrade, but not within the course of 30 minutes. Especially not when it takes 30 minutes to just go from point A to point B
    in any given mission.

And the random patrol cars... Not to rant on this too much, but they drive me absolutely insane. I would enjoy the game approximately 10X as much with
their "encounter" rate turned down to about 1/10. Maybe even less. It would have been cool if it were kept relatively rare and not so gimmicky as,
"lol super fast car that destroys your car in 3 seconds flat within 500 yards. Give me a break. It's nice that you can repair vehicles, but don't make it a chore.

I don't know why exactly I force myself to play it... I know the rest of the game will follow suit, but lush forest graphics really hook me in.

yeah same, I keep going back to it, cause i like looking at it, but after finishing 1 mission, im so annoyed and pissed I just quit, even if I havent saved yet, I get that angry, I just forget to save.

tip though, there is a trainer out that has an option for 1 hit kill, which makes it a little tolerable, but make shure to disable this when getting weapons missions, as it kill the weapons guy when you accept a mission for some reason, so just hit the button to turn it off before you enter a weapons shop and turn it on again when you leave.

its the +7 trainer at gamecopyworld.com , got some other options like teleport, which i use if I cant make it to a mission before my guns blow up, and diamonds and invincible and other stuff.

tele works by saving position your at then hitting another button to go there, so if I get there and my weapons are all screwed I just save my position and go back to gun shop and get weapons and tele to there.

I only use tele when i need to and 1 shot kill.

Seems pretty rubbish. I wonder how it got 8.5 on gamespot. Probably a rigged review. Guess i'll stick to stalker for that open shooter. Even if its buggy as hell.

On a side note why is every open shooters, pretty crappy compared to linear ones?

    FC2 "seemingly" rubbish

Sure they have much more space and all but there is mostly nothing in that space, dialogue is allways broken in these games (wtf?). And overall they are very buggy and unfinished.

i gota agree with all that has been said, this is the most awful release i have seen this year, its as if some 8 year old coded it. for me the whole game stinks.

that malaria thing is stupid, you start running with gun and bam, blurred screen and collapse, even thoughtyou got the medicine i the aafter the first mission.

dont even need to uninstal it here, i just re -imaged the whole drive lol, to get rid of it. no mistake here, i will never touch that again, good job i grabbed it from my Fav torrent site.

i would be gutted if i paid for it

IMO this game is really STALKER: Africa... Except done by someone whose idea of 'sandbox shooter' is several rail shooters overlayed (see: random enemy respawns, not true open world).

I started to get excited about the game last night when I got the sniper rifle, but then I ran smack-dab into that wonderful duet of issues: I really CAN'T go anywhere, and that enemies with shotties and the same crap guns that jam on me every five seconds can fire un-inerrupted with the same distance and accuracy as my sniper. Honestly Crysis felt more open than this game.

Graphically it looks pretty good, sunrise & sunset are excellent along with walking through the forest bits. However it just never hits that next level all around. It really feels like it fits in between HL2 / FarCry 1 and Crysis / CoD4 / Assassins Creed. Maybe it's just the muted African color palette that's making it hard to digest, but I was re-playing Half-Life 2 just before I got FC2 and HL2 pretty much looked as good as FC2 in everything but the sun-ray lighting (HL2, not the ep2 or LC HDR graphics btw).

Plus I don't really get the story, were you hired to kill the Jackal? Is it now personal because, umm, he let you live? I really have no motivation to hunt this man down to be honest, yeah he's a bit of a but not much more so than any of the random dudes shooting at you.

In a FPS I want to be in something like Shoot em Up or Star Wars, either just balls to the wall or something truly epic. Things like Blood Diamond (I'm assuming that had some influence on this game) really just don't translate that well because they focused on the human drama of it, to just pull out the action bits and then throw in a malaria gimmick for 'drama' really just misses the point.

I'd give FarCry 2 a 6/10 right now, it has some cool parts but ultimately it's just a poor melding of STALKER and Crysis

edit: this is the first game where I've actually been upset that I paid $50 for it, I really do like supporting good developers but this just feels like such a flagrant attempt to cash in on the FarCry name and the sandbox shooter concept along with 'kewl graphics'

    Stalker-rubbish
    FC2 "seemingly" rubbish

Sure they have much more space and all but there is mostly nothing in that space, dialogue is allways broken in these games (wtf?). And overall they are very buggy and unfinished.

    Elderscrolls is king though.
Its cause the first two hours of the game are enjoyable, then you start to notice the bad, it creeps up on you and then it falls on its ass. I am guessing, yeah, either they got paid, or they didnt play the game very long.

Wow, the reviews on Xtremesys are a sharp contrast to the reviews by gamers on other websites. Most other consumer reviews I've read seem to be very positive, although they definitely recognize the fact that the game has issues.

Maybe Ubisoft will release a patch to fix them... Until then, I think I'll pass on this one.

I disagree that it's crap. I like it actually, there's just a bunch of *little* things wrong that, when added up, make it really annoying. They could probably all be fixed in a patch. Not like they're going to do that, but they might. Who knows.

I don't like the million little enemy encampments or the random jeep dudes either, or the AI. I HATE the AI, they don't do ANYTHING intelligent. Most of the time they stand around, either shooting at you or just looking the other way, or they sprint for a car and try to run you over. Nice. I don't like how quickly the guns wear, but the jamming is fine IMO. Adds another element to a gunfight. Same with the malaria, although they could have implemented it better. I've mostly been using the sniper rifles which insta-kill almost everything, so I'm not that affected by the lack of damage of the weapons. There's no sneaking at ALL in this game, the AI knows where you are all the time unless it's night, in which case they NEVER know where you are. That's kind of a big thing for me, I love crawling around with a rifle and taking out a base slowly and methodically without anyone noticing, but there's no way I can pull that off in FC2 :|. I also wish not EVERYONE you see outside the main town shot at you, jees, it gets freaking annoying after a while and I don't see how that's realistic.

As for the technical side, every time I save\load a game my FPS halves if I have crossfire enabled. Turn it off, and it works fine. Not a big deal, and it runs super smooth even on one 4850 (!), but still something I would have expected to be caught in a beta test. Actually, everything wrong with this game should have been caught in beta testing, it's as if they skipped that step entirely...

Anyway, I hope they release a patch soon for this that addresses at least a few of the issues. Besides that, the game's fun. It might not be everything I expected it to be, and it probably wasn't worth the 50$ I payed for it (First time I've preordered a game and second time in the last three years I've bought one, the other was Mass Effect.. probably not going to do that again :P), but it's a fun game all the same. I'll keep playing.

    Interesting.

I'm enjoying this game a lot, played in total 19 hours so far and it seems to get better and better.

For all the people saying it's boring, have some variety, try going to your mission on foot, or do it at night with a silenced weapon so you can be sneaky.

This game has a stupid amount of potential if they would just release an SDK, and they would fix some of the major bugs.
In my mind, it's definintly worth 50 dollars AFTER they release the SDK and fix certain bugs. Right now? not so much..

For those that "hate" this game, what did you expect that you didn't really get in the game? I'm not looking to argue with anyone but rather just see exactly what it is you dislike.

Agreed 100%. Bugfixes and some minor tweaks and this game is definitely worth every penny.

on the one hand you have vehicles that stalker clear sky really needed and more diologue, ''but'' with no lean, prone, impossible stealth, unrealistic AI, repetative missions, the map and all the other issues it makes you think...WTF were they doing....
i'm gonna complete the game, as i usually do(just to get my moneys worth)... so i'll reserve my final oppinion untill the end... but we cant all be wrong because we're thinking the exact same things...

To add to all that... MAJOR console port problem: .314 second delay from your mouse movement to on-screen movement. INCREDIBLY annoying and impeding. Even with it though, hardcore is easy-breezy with a sniper rifle.
Moan # 2: Did anyone notice how enemies always have a super power that makes their cars into armoured ferraris..? A random 30y/o truck does 0-60 in less then a second. Then crashes into a tree (wildly skidding everywhere), then repeats the same over and over until it a) runs you over b) the retard inside takes his sweet time getting out (during which, you blow his head off).

Way to kill the franchise UBI, it could truly have been great.

The 10 random guard posts (where guards respawn semi-instantly the moment u set foot outside the camp) on your way to one mission kill the game.
I used to be a schizophrenic; but we're okay now.

Update, was doin the blow up the gas tank mission thing and decided to do the alternative friend objective. So i travel to him, get mission to kill policeman, take my sweet time with a dart rifle (effective actually) and then killed the police man. On my way to second objective I straight up fall over from malaria after running out of pils (just took the last killing police man). I then end up waking up in the dead centre of the map in the church in the town where the guy there tells me he also doesnt have medicine. He then gives me a quest which of coarse is a million miles away in the south west and i travel there and go threw 3 posts, and as I am approaching the place I get shot at, (dont know, guess i killed a guy related to the med place idk) i then shoot back keeping from death and they all come running, i defend myslef and try to enter the building to get the malaria medecine, I CANT. this is my fault, i didnt save during this whole time, well, got 2 hours of repetitive crap to do, again. ERRRRR

As for someone saying they like that jamming and what not, well, so do the rest of us, but when it happens within 30 minutes, not even enough time to get to some missions and it jams every clip or two until it blows in your face, that is pretty freaking stupid.

I am starting to seriously think this game DIDNT TOUCH QA!!!!!!!!!!

I was pissed of by the country restriction on the download of FC2 (see the topic here: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=205835) but after reading all these posts, the country restriction preventing me from buying it might be a good thing finally

People really need to learn what a decent game is and stop jumping on the "I hate most modern pc games" bandwagon

i bet all the people who think its rubbish are like cod4 players. and only enjoy games which are succesful online and games they are used to. KIDS

if anyone is reading this looking for a decent fps for offline gameplay... this is definitely worth buying.
