    Opteron 250's?

Im looking at getting two HP DL145 servers with dual Opteron 250's at 2.4 Ghz. These processors are supposedly dual cores, right? So it would be 8 Opteron at 2.4Ghz...

Any predictions as to how many PPD I can expect from these?

A q6600 will beat it easily.
You will get less than 12,000 WCG points.

    Main Rigs...
    Silver : i7-2600k / Asus P8H67-I Deluxe / 8GB RAM / 460 GTX SSC+ / SSD + HDD / Lian Li PC-Q11s

    Sledgehammer, yeah, single-core opteron.

    270 is dual-core.

Well, you are talking about the first generation single-core opteron (not even dual-core). Of course, it is going to suck real bad compared to today's CPU.

    Do I need a mop?

Im folding on my brothers i7 right right now, and its not going very well. With HT on, I couldnt get above 50% CPU use as reported by windows. I turned HT off and it said 100%, but it is just as slow. Its only at 3Ghz and undervolted though, and hes on windows 7.

I didnt really screw around with it much. But I have my freebie Gigabyte mobo I won, and it has no i7 in it, so im probably going to get one anyways.

I dont pay for electricity, and this household isnt exactly... efficient.

Im just trying to find a excuse to get outdated yet badass server hardware.

    Let's say it this way:
If they gave it to you and you were at school with solar or hydro generated elec then I would say grab it but otherwise no.
You have the X58 board, grab a i7-920 when they go on sale at $230 ish and go from there.
The i7 at 3600 will do 8 times what that dual opty will.. Maybe more..

    It's ... it's hardly "outdated" "badass". It's ... outdated junk.

*sigh*... Dual processor anything is badass in my mind. Especially when it has 15k SCSI disks in it.

I guess I could get a i7 920 and replace the super slow E6750 @ 3.2Ghz that im folding 24/7 with my Q9450 @ 3+ghz. But im not going to use the i7 exclusively for folding, since id want to replace my old and slow Q9450 with some new hardware. And having my main rig folding 24/7 is just too loud and hot! Thats what the basement is for!

Old & slow? My 9450 @ 3.6ghz ran like a champ, but I sold it to a friend (to help buy My I7) and now have My 9550 @4.25ghz and I920 @ 3.4ghz. for my use the I7 isnt any faster. Yes it does WCG a bit better, but its not a night and day upgrade. All depends on your uses. I only get approx maybe 2-5k better on WCG; of course i need to get it overclocked higher once I get better cooling; which will hopefully yield in better #'s on WCG.
