ASUS Rampage II Extreme * UPDATE with results *

or Rampage "Too" Extreme as some say

For now I have an ES board to play with but I can't publish anything more than photos (no results) due to NDA on Core i7. Biggest difference is that it doesn't have the retail cooling but if I can get my hands on a retail sample I will post pics etc of that aswell.

Results will be up when NDA on i7 is up as I said before so for now you will have to do with these

    Rampage II Extreme ES

TweakIt has been upgraded a bit, now you can set multiplier on the fly and there are measurement points for reading voltage for the key components with your DMM easily avaliable.

    update: Retail board and results

    Rampage II Extreme Retail

NDA is up Here are the results I achieved on this board:

    Test system specification

Intel Core i7 965 Extreme Edition

    ASUS Rampage II Extreme

    A-DATA Vitesta DDR3-1600+ Tri-Channel 3x1GB

    8500GT 512MB

    Silverstone Olympia 1200W

Intel box cooler / Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme

    Results

    Highest SuperPi 1M score/clock:

    Highest SuperPi 32M score/clock:

    Highest bclock achieved:

    3DMark06 CPU-test at 4Ghz (Intel box cooler!)

3DMark06 CPU-test at a bit higher voltage (Intel box cooler!):

3DMark06 CPU-test at a even higher voltage (Intel box cooler!):

    3DMark06 CPU-test, highest with TRUE120:

Here's some 24/7 testing (Intel box cooler!):

Rampage II Extreme really takes overclocking to another level with improved TweakIt (multiplier change!) and ProbeIt.

    More results will follow

Elmor you tease !!! hope it has the same Vdimm/Vcore seperation thing as the MSI mobo... making it easier to clock current DDR3 dimms...

    Go go away stupid NDA
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

Oh, you always got the fun toys.

Have you had any chance to test it yet? Does it feel stable as the "normal" Rampage Extreme? I guess it may have some issues as it is an ES-board...

    Tri-channel working ok?

Man, you can say that again. I hope nobody makes a serious breach of NDA, but at the same time, this is getting to the point where it's definitely having a negative impact on buyers. Many have already jumped ship. I fear some of them jumped ship due to bad info, and misinformation that has filled the void.

I almost jumped ship myself. I had a 775 based system already in my cart with a Q9550, and had another window open with this forum, and somebody told me to just setup my case and the water stuff first and try to wait it out. I'm one of a number of people that are right at the end of their waiting game. If we don't hear something firm soon, I'm gonna have to go with the 775 based system, and an X48 board instead.

There hasn't even been a rumor of what the holdup is, and that's what bothers me. I'm starting to believe there may be something seriously wrong. It's definitely scaring people off. As much as I like this technology I'm starting to get a bad feeling about this.

I don't feel like there is some special issues delaying the release. There is often NDA on new hardware before the release. Here is a roadmap posted 26th october 2007 saying that the estimated release is Q4 2008:
    http://www.engadget.com/2007/10/26/i...ap-gets-outed/
For some Q4 is october 1th, for others it might as well be december.

@elmor: Does the voltages feel stable?

I love this. I just hope they price it so I can own one of these. I really like this board. I've got a nice build planned out and this just belongs in it. There are other board that I can go to, but this is the one I really want so far unless the price scares me away, or some other world beater comes out, but so far this thing has everything going for it.

Asus! Please give us a price. Remember we have families and it's Christmas shopping season too!

Insane amount of pictures Andre and really good ones too

No problems with any voltages or running RAMs in Tri-channel mode. Expected price is around €400.

Damn, I love this board I really like way of voltage measuring - safe and gives much better than bios. Nice photos

So this means that only the supplied soundcard that comes with the motherboard can be used?

I'm planning on SLI ( or crossfire ) so a auzentech ( pci ) or creative pci-x1 won't fit. The Creative is to long so it will touch the heat sink. And the auzentech can't be used with sli or crossfire .

Let's hope some of this technology will trickle down to future Asus mainstream boards. Was surprised to find ROG-style Power/Reset Mobo-based switches and no ROG-style phoney NB waterblock on my P5Q3

I'm sorry, i have to ask...do those a-data sticks really get hot enough to warrant that enormous hs/fans mount?
i mean it seems kindof absurd for ram that's supposed to run at 1.5-1.7v...
