    Question Blackops with 2x 4870X2

    Hi,

I have just done a new build and I seem to be having stability issues when using 2 PowerColor 4870X2 in Crossfire with the Foxconn Blackops mainboard.

I have updated to the latest G30 bios (G32 won't work because I require RAID).

Either card on its own works fine, but when the 2 are hooked up for Crossfire I get BSOD left right and center (some relating to ntfs.sys, some are memory and service specific, and some blue screens provide no information what so ever), and the installation of Vista blue screens at least once also.

    Any ideas?

See my sig for PC specs.

NB: When using bios G28 the machine would hang after initializing the RAID configuration when using Crossfire. G30 fixed that but still blue screens when in Windows

    Thanks.

Up those NB volts. I find that adding more cards really strains the NB.

I also have dual hd4870x2 issues:

Everything works fine ,no bsod etc. but in ccc i can only control the first card, the other does not appear in the dropdown at ati overdrive options. So it seems that one hd4870x2 is disabled in some way.
In hardwareinfo(still in ccc) it shows 4 gpus but 3 says disabled.
I've tried catalyst 8.9 and 8.10 with several installs but nothing helps.
Crossfirex is enabled and device manager shows 4 hd4870x2 but no luck.
Im new to these cards and would be really glad if someone could help me get these babys running.

    hardware is:
    blackops g32
    2x1gb ocz 1800mhz
    e8600
    2x powercolor hd4870x2
    550w for motherboard and hd
    750w dedicated to graphicscards
    winxppro sp3

Everything is running stock @ air and board boots fine and runs 3dm01 but still no control of second card.

    Hi, just an update.

The system has been running fine for the last couple days having up'd the NB and SB voltages. Not one single blue screen. Although I haven't yet put it under full stress tests.

I'm using both the 8-pin and 6-pin connectors on each card.

Partisan, I think Windows XP does not support more than 2 gpus, can someone confirm that?

Hi addfaz and Partisan, welcome to XtremeSystems!

addfaz, cool, good to hear its working fine now!
yeah, the more cards you use the more nb volts you usually need for the same fsb.

Partisan, yepp, in windows XP you cant run quadsli afaik...

I found Vista wasn't too happy running games with only 2gb ram.

If you use 32bit it can't address more than about 3gb anyway

thats at least what i heard from two or three people... getting a high fsb with 2 cards is more difficult than getting a high fsb with one. but how big the difference is varies a lot...
