Just for fun cause none of the 2 of my recent boards (Biostar P45, DFI P45) that I tried was able to deal with this E8600.
I've got hard times trying to clock it with the DFI JR and the Biostar TPower; but both gave weird results (5.5GHz+ on DFI; 5.9GHz+ on Biostar both with tons of different settings). First of all, I've used Grosse Bertha 3-Stager and LN², but that was too cold... then with Petite Bertha 2-Stager which was too cold as well.
I started losing my temper; thinking that maybe the CPU was rubbish.
Well, finally I took an old commando of mine, and quickly tried the CPU on air... It booted up at 5.1GHz (600x8.5) @1.45v (BIOS) radbox cooled. And it easily reached the actual FSB air limit of the board (610).
Consequently, I've decided to use a 'smaller' cascade (CPU IHS at -98C to -90C so far; lets say about -110C to -102C evap).
Code:M/B:Asus Commando, Vdroop mod CPU:Intel Core Extreme E8600 Q822A CPU cooling:2 Stage Cascade Memory:Crucial Ballistix PC2-6400 1024MBx2 VGA:Asus HD3870 HDD:Western Digital 80GB Power Supply:Cooler-Master 1250W Vcore:1.85V(BIOS) Vdimm: AUTO Vmch: AUTO Vfsb: AUTO OS:Windows 2003 Server
This commando won't give better results I guess... waiting for boblemagnifique, and some more stuff to bench during the week end.
We will hopefully be able to get some nice marks out of this little piece of silicone.
