Scary to see the huge changes from shop to shop as posted here. Or country to country. And they all get it from Intel at 284-999$ prices.

I remember when I bought my E6600 at launch, the cost was on pair with Intel + vat + reseller = £220, rip-off's were every where. I will not pay more for an I7 920 than what I previously paid for my E6600.

There are 2 options about DDR3, since dual channel 2x1GB DDR3 memory from Crucial rated at CL6 1.80 is as cheap as £75, no reason for a full fledged triple channel just yet concerning price anomalies. So even dual channel with a low latency will be more than enough for a 6 months needs. I just hope Crucial will launch a 3x1GB modules rated 1.65 CL7 for I7.

Motherboards, Foxconn Blood Rage or Eclipse is all that I have in mind. If the Blood Rage is less than £150 then I will buy it, else Eclipse all the way.

If the Eclipse didn't come with all that power monitoring garbage it would be a hell of a lot cheaper...

im going to be jumping on the core i7 train but im in australia so things are a bit more expensive , so i was going to go for a core i7 920, maybe gigabyte board , but im thinking of been tight and going for a G.SKILL 3GB (3 x 1GB) DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kit to start with , and then later down the track get another 3gb kit and have 6gb, would (3 x 1GB) be enough to start with ?

    or shall i just pay bit more and get G.SKILL 6GB (3 x 2GB) DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Triple Channel Kit to start with ?

i think i would rather have 1600 mhz ddr3, im going to be water cooling and oc'ing the sucker as far as she goes

Always go for lower density configs (i.e. 6x1>3x2)

Doesnt matter. Unless the ratings are different. Always 3x2Gb over 6x1GB unless 6x1GB is cheaper and you dont have any ambition for more memory.

but with a 6x1 config you can switch out to 3x1 to push clocks.
but maybe i just <3 modularity too much.

edit: and i guess i don't know how qpi and imc will behave yet, but it seems to me the imc will allow ram configs to affect clocking even more, so it would be nice to have that option.

Wishful thinking, Blackops is 255£+ inc vat, foxconn p45 ELA is 225£ inc vat, even the foxconn digital life am2 board is 210£ inc vat, so I fear the Bloodrage will be closer to 300£ than 200£.

The msi should be a good option though if it comes to prices.

These above examples you gave are some of most expensive boards in the market.

MSI Eclipse for £250 not bad at all, any board to offer me 20 x 200 = 4.0 then will be it and the Eclipse is clearly the only hope, any other reference?
