    Pci e 8 x 8 vs 16 x 16

i ordered a maximus II formula and as you probably know its pci e 2.0 8 x 8.
i was planning on ordering two 4870s for xfire. i was just wondering if the 8 x 8 will bottle neck the cards. and if so, how much? would i be better off only getting one 4870 x2? i really like running SLI/Xfire and including them in my LC loop for my Build log. any info would be appreciated, thanks.

wow, great link. it looks like the p45 with xfire on the maximus II actually does pretty good/better against the other chipsets. thank you

Awesome link I have been curious about the dual 8x vs dual 16x PCIE issue.

Gee there really isn't that much difference...

I'm not so sure about the test, did they really use two 4x PCI-E or one 16x and one 4x on the P35 board? Kind of vital difference there.

Yeah, that's what I thought. He persists calling it "dual 4x lanes" in the thread though.

    No issues on P45 as its PCI-E 2.0 unlike the P35 with PCI-E 1.0/1

No GPU today will saturate its bandwidth (a review last week or so ago) finally showed this.

There was someone who noted on the [H] forum that he went from P35 to P45 with his 4870x2 and noticed zero difference with the faster bus. So, I would think that even an X2 doesn't get bottlenecked by 8x PCI 2.0 in game play.

I'm curious about that too. I'd love a second 4870 x2 if it won't be bastardized by x8 slots.

I just rechecked my 03 scorews between my P5E, and MIIF. There is a 1500 point difference between the x8/x16 setups. Most noticible was the texture fill rates, they were taking a hit on the P45 setup.... Although i dont know if it would be that noticible in a "real world" gaming test.. It's too bad that the P45 clocks quads better than the X38/48. Maybe Foxxcon will get their act together with the Avenger, although my hopes are not high....

At least the xtreme post used 2 x2 cards, and being able to actually push a quad further on a p45 imho, greatly outweighs the performance hit it takes on the x8 setup with 2 x2 cards.....

No just one but since P35 is 16x 1.1 then 8x 2.0 should be similar.
