New DDR3 Ballistix Tracers from Crucial

Fremont, CA, and Glasgow, UK, 7 October, 2008 -- Lexar Media, a leading global provider of memory products for digital media, today announced immediate availability of Crucial™ Ballistix Tracer™ PC3-10600 (DDR3-1333MHz) high-performance, low-latency memory modules. These modules are the world's first high-performance DDR3 memory modules to incorporate activity-indicating Light-Emitting Diodes (LED).

Crucial Ballistix Tracer DDR3 memory modules are specifically built for performance enthusiasts, case modders and do-it-yourself users who want to push the performance envelope while showing off their components in today's popular modified or windowed systems. The LEDs on the new Crucial Ballistix Tracer DDR3 modules are illuminated in a random pattern based on memory activity, highlighting the system memory and allowing users to visually see how intensely the memory is working. These new modules feature a black printed circuit board (PCB) and black integrated heat spreaders, as well as LEDs spread across the entire length of the top edge of the module. Additionally, eight blue ground-effects LEDs emit a constant glow near the motherboard memory sockets.

"Our Crucial Ballistix Tracer modules deliver cutting edge, solid performance while adding a touch of style to any gaming or enthusiast system," said Jeremy Mortenson, Lexar Media's senior DRAM product marketing manager. "Enthusiasts are going to love our killer new lighting effects scheme that adds more LED placements along the memory module for an even more impressive-and functional-design."

From my experience Crucial sticks have always performed very well. Reliability was always their downside, but that was more Micron DDR1/DDR2 in general.

First thing I would do to these sticks is I would desolder the LEDs...
You were not supposed to see this.

The LEDs at the top are a bit ditracting so when the review is done il probs stick some elec tape over the top...

The LEDs at the bottom look fairly funky

The saving grace of the flashing LEDs is that it makes it soooo easy to check for a crash if you're at the other end of the room and cant see the monitor

It will be nice if it runs at 1.5volts. So it can be overclocked under Bloomfield platform.

Didn't I already tell everyone that these were released back on September 24th?

Micron Releases Crucial Ballistix Tracer DDR3 1333MHz Memory Modules - Press Release Soon

of course, I had to contact the engineering department for the information..

either way though, I doubt these models will run very long on X58 boards. Still gotta wait for the < 1.65v modules before I make the 6GB plunge on these.

Anybody know the voltage on these? I'm hoping it meets the new 1.5v JEDEC Standard. Also, any Tri-Channel Kits yet? I'm looking at RAM very carefully right now.

    matched pair vs unmatched pair.

they gotta pay that little blind girl $10 to reach into the basket of ram and pick out to sticks, who she then hands off to the mute guy who boxes it, who hands it off to the deaf lady who puts it on the truck.

blind girl cant see if the sticks are bad
mute guy cant tell anyone they are bad
deaf lady cant hear anyone telling her those were meant for the garbage not the USA shipment.

thats just about where i am with crucial right now.

These run at 1.8v, so we gotta wait for X58 compatible DDR3 Tracers to be released. See the email a few posts above. ^

1.5v has always been JEDEC standard for DDR3.
I really wonder, why people so care about this? Leave it to manufacturers, they will do everything to make best products for each setup.

Check this out - I just received news from Micron's engineering department that they're still finalizing the specs of the Ballistix Tracer DDR3 modules for the X58 platform. This means that we will see even more Ballistix later down the line, once Intel finalizes the specs:

by the way, here's a module in action.

well I just get gear from Crucial and I review it. The reviews go up here, BT-UK, OCX and AF at the mo. Might see if Bit-Tech and Hexus would be happy to let me post reviews there too.

What about you? Looks like you have a Crucial contact, where do you share your findings?

I actually don't have any contacts. Just an anxious consumer who spent some time finding email addresses at Crucial that would link me to people (engineers) who actually design these ICs.

When I do get gear though, I'll usually be first to send news to TechPowerUp, VR-Zone, the Fudzilla forum, and the Crysis community.

Therein lies the problem. When they don't follow standards we get into these rediculous marathon sessions of trying to find the right RAM that will work. In one mobo it might POST but be horrible at OC'ing where in another board it shines, in another it might not POST at all.

This is what Intel is dealing with right now. If they would've followed the standard in the beginning the problems would be non-existent. None of this RAM should've been released until they could get it stable at 1.5 or below. That's why standards exist so people don't have all these problems.

    You're completely missing the point.
It MUST post in every setup. Every memory, let it be 1066MHz or 2000MHz has same JEDEC tables. Lets take Micron D9GTR. It is specified as 1066MHz CL7 IC. Memory manufacturer sells you these chips guaranteed to run at speeds like 2GHz with higher voltage making you sure that this memory will reach desired speeds. It still is 1066MHz memory, not 2GHz. 2GHz is maximum speed that manufacturer guarantee. Standards are for every DRAM type, overclocking is breaking limits, breaking standards.
For example we sell 2GHz Diablo kits with D9GTR/GTS. GTR is 1066Mhz CL7, D9GTS is 1333Mhz CL9 spec'd. Maximum JEDEC speed programmed in SPD is 1333MHz CL9 to ensure compatibility at every system. Also there are XMP tables for 1866MHz and 2GHz for automatic overclocking. In some memory kits there are no XMP or EPP tables, but standard JEDEC stable in SPD. In this case manufacturer pretests memory for you and if you're overclocking you system, you know memory limit.
