Digital PWMs are good as long as they don't make awfully high pitched whine during load. Hope this one doesn't scream like the P35 TR2S I tried did which sounded like if I'd be torturing it with 5v or something.

I mean I was always sort of on the edge of 'smart' when it came to that sort of thing anyway, and the DFI NF4 was probably as complex as it can really get for me before it leaves the realm of fun and becomes work.

Right, and I think Asus has regained some lost market share from the NF4 days because of it. Asus BIOS are even becoming extremely complex these days, but at least I can still understand those.
I'd disagree, the new features on the DFI boards is what keep the harcore geeks buying them IMO.

But for the rest there is always asus.

Well I'd certainly agree that I've never been truly hardcore when compared to other tweakers on these boards. I'd say that many of them have found favor in the latest Asus boards over the DFI offerings.

Yes, true, but DFI is also hard to get in some country's. 2 Years back dutch stores where full of DFI boards, now you only find one store selling DFI boards.
If availability would be better I'm 100% sure i would have bought one.

I believe their availability these days is due to some extent to their popularity.

Wow, board looks good... only thing I don't like is the expansion slot layout. Why didn't they stick to the X48 layout? I think the chipset/socket take up too much space to copy it exactly, but they could have done:

    PCI-E x1 (or empty)

    PCI-E x16

    PCI-E x4

    PCI

    PCI-E x16

    PCI

    PCI-E x16

    That would have worked better?

Also I partly agree that DFI BIOS is way to complicated, and maybe Asus are closer to the "sweet spot". However, how can you justify paying between £30 and £100 extra for a similar motherboard versus a DFI model??

    Cheers,

    Suman

I paid $280 for my rampage formula when it was brand new and $260 for my DFI X38 when it was brand new. $20 difference for a much better board in my opinion.

    EnJoY,
It's not about demand (well, ok, maybe to an extent). Only a few european shops carry DFIs, for example; roughly 150 shops offer Asus LGA775 boards, whereas only about 10 offer DFI's boards.
You were not supposed to see this.

The prices are more competitive for DFI here in the states now as well. However, when the X38's and X48's were first launched, DFI and Asus prices were very comparable IIRC.

Besides, it's not the price that concerns me. It's being able to get the most out of my setup and DFI boards just scramble my brain these days, that's all.

Agreed. I think DFI should send a helping guide to its users explaining what each feature does. We do like many features, being able to change anything, however some are too technical to some people. I think a plain English should be enough even if that takes 5 pages instead of 1.

Yay, it's nice to see their samples out right on time.

I love their bios and I hope this is another ut p35. The community/support for that board was awesome.

I'm not impressed by the board's layout, it's an usual DFI layout.

I will definitely be considering this if they can get it out on time. The x48 dfi boards seem to take forever to come out.

Yeah I just use Chrome for sites that decide they are better than Firefox. . . . ..

Anyhoo I don't think DFI's bios options are impossible to use. You can leave the majority of them at auto until you understand them. The memory options are extensive but they are the only things I don't understand and I am not an extreme ocer.

I felt rather overwhelmed with the x48 DK T2RS when I got it. So many new settings but if you leave most at auto then it really does a good job in posting in whats necessary. I'm not hardcore by any means, but the features that are there and segregated off from the more rudimentary are nice to read into and one day try and tweak with.

It would just really be nice if DFI did release some sort of documentation on a lot of these other settings than relying on the few percent of the user base who understands this to do this for them.
