Two Socket Nehalem-EP: Pics & Action

Some pics and info about upcoming Nehalem-EP (Xeon) CPUs to servers:

    These are dedicated to Movieman

I received a pic of Foxconn Nehalem-EP motherboard (codename: Tylersburg) which is a two LGA1366 socket system.

Here is a Nehalem-EP system in action in IDF Fall 2008 with 144 GB of DDR3 memory using MetaRAM technology which works by stacking up to four times more DRAM chips onto the module. A special chipset is required on the module. Windows Task Manager displays 16 CPUs (8C/16T).

The MetaRAM chipset works transparently, seen as a memory controller to the on-DIMM DRAM, yet seen by the system’s memory controller as DRAM. The chipset is then able to route the reads and writes appropriately between the DRAMs and memory controller, in an out-of-order execution, allowing the memory to still operate at standard frequency.

More pics on Finnish hardware site Muropaketti.com: http://plaza.fi/muropaketti/nehalem-...atavua-muistia

November will be intresting on desktop and server side

I have a feeling I know where my money is going this holiday season
"To exist in this vast universe for a speck of time is the great gift of life. Our tiny sliver of time is our gift of life. It is our only life. The universe will go on, indifferent to our brief existence, but while we are here we touch not just part of that vastness, but also the lives around us. Life is the gift each of us has been given. Each life is our own and no one else's. It is precious beyond all counting. It is the greatest value we have. Cherish it for what it truly is."

Wow that is some serious power...

This server stuff doesn't usually impress me...

i mean 4 years ago a pretty sick server had 4 cores and 8gb of memory... now i feel like i could run google's search engine for an entire nation off of one of these boxes.. (ok a little dramatic, but still damn.)

I mean this will have double the IPC of most pc's and be 16x better at multitasking, at double ipc... haha.

Yup, 260W for 8C/16T is what Intel will call Efficient. Still, makes my 8C/8T Opteron server cry.

    Isn't the EP just "Enterprise?"

    I mean, that's what I always assumed.
