Where to get a good deal on a D90?

I'm about to retire my D70 and i like the specs/features/price of the D90 to upgrade żbut is there a good place to get a better than MSRP deal?

I'll be visiting Florida in november (i guess an online buy is the smarter choice so i dont pay tax) and i got a friend there where i could get it shipped.

You really wont be able to find any deals on it. Just buy from a reputable dealer online that is out of state. I like adorama or B&H photo.

Thanks for the tips i'll get the one with the lens i can keep it or sell it later. I alreadu have a 18-200 VR

Which lens would you recommend to get for the D90? is a 50mm F1.8 a good buy? i saw some on Amazon at 120 USD or so which sounds extremely cheap.

Dang, 1000 is the cheapest without body. I got my D300 with 18-200 for 1800 out the door, so esentially 1200. 1000 for the D90 seems a bit steep unless you really like nikon and want HD video.

I saw an awesome comerical yesterday.

It was of Ashton Kutcher packing up is D90 to go on a trip. He had the POS 18-105 lens on there, and he puts the camera in a Nikon backpack with the following items. 70-200 F2.8 VR G and SB-900, as well as one other lens which I could not really tell what it was, but based on the other items was probably the new 50mm F1.4 G.

I mean come on ppl. If you drop the 2.6 grand on equipment and then get a D90, I think you are a little broken. Atleast get a D300, D700 or if you really want to get the most from the equipment, a D3.

Note: This is not a bash on the D90, just that it didnt make any sense and I thought the comerical was retarded.

Maxx got a special deal when they were offering a $300 rebate on the D300 + 18-200 combo. That's not a normal price

Don't know if I agree completely with that last statement Maxx, it really depends what you need. You need to compare features and if the D300 won't do anything for you over the D90, then spend the extra money on a lens. A D90 + a constant f/2.8 lens will outperform a D300 with ANY kit lens.

For me, I did need the D300 to address the shortcomings I ran into, but not all will. It is simply the tool that you attach your lenses to

I didnt get the rebate, I scammed a guy at Best buy to give me a 480 dollar discount.

After having the flexibility of the D300 I can say, that for myself its worth the extra cost.

Anyone know when the price is gonna drop on the D80 ? I have held off buying the D60 + Two lense kit specifically because there was a hint at a price drop on the D80 and i would like to have a D80 + 18-135mm lense.

Im guessing its going to be soon due to the launch of the D90 very shortly.

I went there to get a flash for a friends birthday party. When I was there I saw the D300. I asked the guy if I could take a look at it. He showed it to me and informed me that it was the only copy left in stock. I asked him if there was a discount on it for being the display model (note that it was in a lock glass case and only had about 50 actuations on the shutter at that time). He said there was a discount for 10 or 15% (i cant remember which). I informed him that I wanted to purchase it for my fiancee as a birthday gift. Because of my heart warming story, he decided to bump the discount to 20%. the last 5% of discount (25% total) he gave me because I had to wait 15 minutes for them to unlock the case to get my SB800. With the 25% discount I walked out of the store as excitied as can be.

The funniest part of all of this is that I never planed to purchase a D300 in the first place. But since I got such a good deal on it, I decided that I should keep it and just pay the CC off as I go along

:lol today i went to a local Nikon store, to start they still havent got the D90 and have no idea of it's price then i asked for the same 50mm 1.8 lens and the price is USD 270 or so.

I'll buy it in Amazon and if i dont like it i will just sell it here and make a few $$

270 for the 50 1.8 is a total rip. Its 109 dollars here. I am contemplating getting one just so I have something for ultra low light situations.

Maxx don't discount the 35mm f/2 - sharper wide open than the 50 1.8 and a more useful focal length on crop sensors IMO.

Agreed. I have the Canon 50mm f/1.8 as well as a 24mm, and the 24mm never comes off my camera. The 50mm sits in my camera bag 99% of the time.

I know, I just dont want to pay the money for it. I would prefer the 35mm F2, but I dont want to pay the money for it. Personally I'd love to see a 35mm F1.2 or 1.4 like Canon has. Nikon really needs to start putting more work into creating more lenses rather than pumping out new bodies every other day.

Just wondering, does Nikon have a comparable lens to the Canon 17-40mm f/4L?

No, they have f/2.8 zooms and f/3.5-5.6 zooms. Nothing inbetween...

The lack of inbetweens at a reasonable price is driving me away from Nikon glass. Im getting the Tokina 11-16 F2.8 now and the Tamron 17-50 F2.8 for Christmas. It just doesnt make any sense to pay 1200 for a 17-55 F2.8 from Nikon when you can get a lens almost as good for 1/4 the price.

Then you should see the prices on other items around here you wouldnt believe it, we normally pay doble to triple the retail price of the US. Hardware is the only "cheap" tech product we get couse it doesnt pay duties (thought Tax here is 19%).
