New amd 45nm Info! Model names etc!

    So some new info :

According to sources, AMD will begin to optimize their naming scheme for their 45nm CPU: they will keep Phenom X4/X3 brand, but numbers after it will have five digits.

Sources mentioned that the name of two 45nm CPU this year will be Phenom X4 20550 and Phenom X4 20350, with their AM2+ and DDR2 support, these two 45nm Deneb CPU are only available for a short period (last order at 09Q2), for AM2+ mobo users to update AMD’s latest CPU.

In 2009 Q1 and Q2, all Deneb CPU will shift to AM3, supports DDR3. also in 09Q1 Propus will show up, they will become Phenom X4 16×00. 45nm triple core CPU Heka and Rana will become Phenom X3 14×00 and Phenom X3 12×00.

I can't believe they actually pay people to come up with these completely stupid naming schemes.

This gives me a brain ache. Doesn't the word "optimize" imply improvement?

3.0ghz and 2.8ghz in the same thermal envelope? That's actually good news. Hopefully this isn't just some random rumor. Then again, the naming is a bit ridiculous. So, we only get two DDR-2 chips? Or will the AM3 parts work in AM2+ boards?

why the high end ones in ddr3 and ddr2 flavour while the lower end ones will be ddr 3 only? shoudnt it be the other way round?

i though all AM3 cpus were supposed to work in AM2+ boards. i guess i was wrong. if this holds true then AM2+ is pretty much dead platform in terms of upgrade, same as LGA775.

AM3 chips will work in AM2 boards. However AM2 chips won't work in AM3 boards. AM3 will also support both DDR2 and DDR3, but not at the same time. Obviously AM2 chips only support DDR2.

And yeah, this new 'alleged' naming scheme gives me a major headache as well.

well they started off with a wacko nr in the first place... so they can't continue the naming schema.

for the rest, list is not correct, htt speed is wrong on several types, tdp is also wrong on the am3 procs and launch, date since all will enter on q109

It's about time AMD gets with the DDR3 program. AMD staying with DDR2 is like sticking with AGP. Move on already.

DDR2 is like AGP???? I'd say thanks but no thanks to forced obsolescence. Have you seen the benchmarks where changing from DDR2 533 to DDR2 1066 yielded about a 5-10% improvement in performance? Who'd be stupid enough to pair DDR3 with current processors anyway?

Why are the TDPs still at 125? Should it not be below 125 since TDP is power consumption? Am I right?

DDR2 like AGP? huh AMD is offering alot of value if you can still use DDR2 then transition to DDR3 when it makes sense.

Jesus Christ! Who makes these model names up? So are we to assume that a Phenom X4 20x00 is going to be roughly two times faster than a Phenom X4 9950? Now most of us here know it will not, but average Joe Six pack is sure going to be confused. The whole PR scheme sucks.

It was always my understanding that AM3 was slated for a 09Q2 release, or sometime in March 09. Anyway, DDR3 mainly offers diminishing returns at the same relative frequencies and timings on an AMD platform with an IMC. Perhaps when AM3 is ready for primetime DDR3 prices will have leveled some. Until then DDR3 will probably be more about bragging rights.

The only tangible positives of DDR3 would be running at lower voltages with lowered power consumption and heat dissipation, but that's not worth a huge premium to me. Obviously DDR3 will eventually also be able to generate much higher frequencies over DDR2.

Bull, AMD's chipsets do absolutely nothing to decide the Memory the system can use. [Hence s939 chipsets will work for sAM2, sAM2+, and will also work for sAM3 with DDR3]

The price of reliability is the pursuit of the utmost simplicity. It is a price which the very rich find most hard to pay.

Modern Ram, makes an old overclocker miss BH-5 and the fun it was

I don't think the DDR3 rating is right last I seen DDR3 and amd it said they wanted DDR3 1600mhz

    that's a small jump form 1066mhz to 1333mhz ddr3 it's not worth it.

Well, 125W for 2.8ghz and 3.0ghz is a good thing. B3 was 125W for 2.6ghz, they're able to increase clock speeds by 400mhz and remain in the same thermal envelope, so, 45nm has helped a lot.

    Five digit names!
And people are laughing at memory vendors for that
Total lack of ideas from the marketing department...

AMD really needs a new "buzzword" like X2 once was not 20550 or 21553

Wth? That naming scheme is bloody confusing... Why can't they make it simpler like "Phenom 428" (4 - number of cores, 28 - core clock @2.8 Ghz) or similar to what they've done with Radeon naming? Just my .

The naming scheme posted here could very well be the false one planted by AMD .It also may end up to be the correct one ,in which case it will be rather unpractical.
