[Test Report] Powercolor HD4870 PCS+ Edition

    Powercolor HD4870 512MB PCS+ Edition

    Powercolor HD4870 512Mb GDDR5 PCS+

    Photos

The improvements in Powercolor HD4870 512Mb PCS+ compared to ATi reference cards are :

    1. VRM upgrade from 3 phase to 4 phase

    2. Better voltage regulator module and cooling

    3. Reference cooler replaced with ZEROtherm dual heatpipe cooler.

    4. Memory modules and VRM with independent heat sink.

    5. Powercolor added a shiny metal strip to prevent PCB deformation.

    6. +50Mhz GPU (800Mhz) and +200Mhz Memory (3800Mhz)

    ------------------------

    System

    CPU : Intel C2D E8400
    Card : Powercolor HD4870 512Mb GDDR5 PCS+ Edition
    Motherboard : ASUS P5E X38
    Ram : 4GB Gskill 8000PQ
    PSU : Corsair TX750W
    Hard Drive : Samsung F1 750GB
    Monitor: LCD HP L2335
    O.S: Windows Vista 64bit +Sp1
    Driver : Catalyst 8.9 Beta
Software Tools: Rivatuner , Fraps & ATiTool
    Case : Antec Nine Hundred (3x Fans 120mm & 1x Fan 200mm)
    Cooling: Watercooling CPU

    ----------------------

    Temps

Note : The card will be tested with new Powercolor PCS+ Bios !

Automatic Fan Speed config from Powercolor HD4870 512Mb PCS+ :

    From 45º to 55º>>> Fan speed = 7%

    From 56º to 60º >>> Fan speed = 32%

    From 60º to 70º >>> Fan Speed = 43%

    71º >> Fan Speed 74%

when the GPU Temp reach 71º the fan speed = 74% ( only few seconds untill the temperature went down again to 70º )

    Temp Results

    Ambient Temp = 26º

IDLE Tem with Automatic Fan Speed = 53º ( Fan speed = 7%)

Máx Temp running Crysis Benchmark = 70º/71º

    Máx Temp with Atitool 3D = 70º/71º

The cooler is just a little less noisy compared to ATi reference cooler , however in my opinion the temps are great with Automatic Fan Speed for a Overclocked card !

mascaras sorry for the thread revival.....can you tell me where to get the bios....do i need to go straight to Powercolor or is it out in the wild......the review card is same as mine but im having no joy in finding the newer bios.
my bios version is :- VER011.003.000.001.029329.......I take it this was the old 1.
    thx
