XS has been buggy as hell for me at work and at home ever since yesterday.
Last night i even gave up trying to get pages to load and went and cried in my pillow instead.

    Right.....

    Ok, Domain registration:
20 dollars yearly or so per TLD.
Now since Xs is running a dedicated box we take a look at hardware cost:
    Server cost:
minimum of say... 1500 dollars from the frame & basic CPU's.
    Ram amount: 32 Gb
HDD Space: terrabyte or 2 i guess
    Swap Disks :
Raid some SAS Drives, 15k RPM,... lets say a good 5000 dollars for a good professional SAS Drive setup
    Bandwidth costs:
This forum sucks bandwidth like there is no tomorrow so we are easely looking at 100GB of Bandwidth per month, if not LOADS more.
Co location for the server in a data center : 200 dollar per month

Tally that up and your hardware cost alone would around the 15K US dollar mark (if not WAY more)
    Upkeep cost of colocation:
    200 dollars monthly
    Bandwidth costs:
100GB a month at the bare minimum, I'll do a longshot and say like 100 dollars

Now, keep in mind Xs is BIG, the entire MySQL database behind this thing is prolly a few gigabytes big, the attachements directory even bigger...

the serverload is probably pretty immense and well and there is NO WAY you can ever classify running a site like Xs as "not THAT much".
    You left one thing mate,
    One amazing forum = PRICELESS

first of all: these are simple adbanners. adware is smth completely different...

and yes, fugger said he'd include some ads to gain some money for xs. in general i'm fine with it. especially because one is able to just "minimize" the banner on the right. and the one on top of the page isn't flashy that it'd annoy me

on the other hand i have to agree that xs is extremely slow for the last couple of days.

    agreed

    *edit*
did some testing and the long loadtimes of the site are indeed related to the ads. with ff3 and adblock plus, which removes the adds, the pages load instantly, while the page loads up to 10 seconds without adblock plus.

ok, as much i think ads are ok, this slowdowns really kill the usability of xs...

No Ad's for Donators button preffered here.
I'd rather give XS $50 to not to watch , need to block the ad's than having them there

I'm not opposed to generating some revenue for XS, but it has really slowed the site down, at least on my connection!

    Ads are disappeared?
I don't mind the ads, i'm glad enough that Fugger keeps XS in the air. Most people have no idea what it costs to keep such a website online.

    ABP works just fine

I don't give a crap about standard ads, but the 'OMG! YOU WON!' flashing bling thing ads piss the hell out of me

It's clear that those ad's doesn't feet the XS layout at all.
I usually don't mind them but those looks really ugly on grey bg collour.

I'd say remove them and add donation with progress bar on required
    money each month.

Otherwise this will look like Mercedes AMG with garden tools ad on it, LAME

I dont post much but i do follow quite a few threads and news every day

This honestly makes the site look super sleezy, i understand the need for revenue, but cmon, it looks like the worst torrent or warez site, i already had #1 Colledge girls with them half naked and stuff like that. (not that i have anything agains that but i am sure all of here can find that content easly on the web if we wanted) and that certanly wouldnt be the time i wanted to check out XS and have my 4 year old kid around me.

I'm sure alot would argue with me but why not just stick manifacturers and computer stores adds like alot of the sites do, especialy that this is a forum not as much a review site. Im sure none of us would thing Fugger is biased towards abit if their add was flashing above nor would that change the opinions of people on this forum. and im sure NewEggs add would generate way more clicks from here then the fishes in pond for the #1 screensavers, i would honestly be afraid of browser hijacks and spyware if i clicked some of the adds that are flipping.

i already had quite a lot ads here with sound. one crazy ad with a shaking windows messagebox ("check your computer now") and every 3 secs a "bling". "bling"... naaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrr

these ads here on xs are gettin worse and worse

atm i'm looking at a best online casino ad and before that some kissing girls "find nr 1 college girls"... rofl. (ah, illidan already took a picture of thah one )

*edit* the ad with the sound and shaking msgbox:

wahh, enough of that blingbling sound. it's driving me crazy... adblock for the win.

but if everyone is using adblock due to these annoying ads, the intention to use ads to get some revenue just failed. ;/
