need your input regarding an LCD upgrade

    hello XS's
    here is my story,
4 years ago i bought a 20.1" ViewSonic VP201b (S-IPS) which did cost me an arm & leg, it was sooooooo expensive back then but i decided to get the best. the monitor died after a year, sent it back to the local ViewSonic distributer for RMA, the es weren't so pleased with that & after 4 months of fights over the phone, they decided to send me a replacement! the model they gave me was the ViewSonic VP2030b (P-MVA). i couldn't be happier until last week when all of a sudden it decided to die on me! WTF?!!
due to the last experience i had with the local distributer, i think that i'll pass & go get a new monitor! so please, DO NOT recommend any ViewSonic!

i've been researching for the last 4 days now, i've been using 1600x1200 for 4 years now, so i think that the current popular 1680x1050 resolution offered will be a downgrade. (yeah i know it's widescreen yadayada..)
the same goes the monitor size, that 22" will be the min.

    my current uses:
    1. programming, so it's lots of code
    2. internet surfing.. bla bla bla
    3. movies/tv (no need for a builtin tuner)
    4. although i didn't touch any game for a while, this is a must!

ok, so far so good, what's the problem?
the whole TN film thing!! most of the monitor i've checked are TN based! WTF? my 2 previous retired ViewSonics were better! (or maybe not, since they died! )
to be honest, i'm leaning towards a 24" monitor, should i go for an expensive top-of-pop monitor like i did 4 years ago & get a non TN based monitor? how bad is it to get a TN based one?

    monitors i've been considering:
    TN based: (sorted by price)
    *. DELL E248WFP
    *. HP W2408H
    *. BenQ G2400W

    non TN: (sorted by price)
    *. DELL 2408WFP-HC
    *. Samsung 240T *soooooo expensive*

    what do you say? alternatives?

the 2408 is an excellent screen, I just bought a 248 for college (needed a less expensive monitor that i wouldnt mind as much if it broke) and its not as nice as the 2408 but it does have excellent color vibrance and response time so for gaming its great, for all around get the 2408

If games are a must, don't get the Dell. They have some of the worst lag issues on the market.

edit: Can't get direct linking to work, but select "Delay compared with a CRT" in the list.

interesting, the 248 does not suffer from this problem, I can vouch for that as I am cal-im css player and I have never been better before I used this monitor

The 248? If you mean the 2408 you can easily prove/disprove it by comparing it to a CRT monitor.

Use Input Lag EXE found here: http://tft.vanity.dk/
Take 10-20 random shots of a CRT and your LCD in clone mode. Look at the resulting photos and report back here stating the highest and average lag.

thank you so much guys, i think that i've made up my mind!
neither of the above! it will be the Apple Cinema 30" but it will take 2 to 4 month to accept(psychologically! ) the price!
in the mean time, i will fight-for-my-right & RMA the VP2030b

    until then, take care.
