You do realize that those video cards are already banking on two years old.

Haha, yeah. But they're still awesome in SLI. What would you suggest?

Marvelling at uber expensive hardware is a disease m8.

The best rig in the world is the build with the best parts you can buy for your money.

It is my experience, however, that a very futureproof gaming rig can be built for $2,500 in any generation of hardware.

Yeah no offense, your spending your money in the wrong places.

Get a QX9650. Get either a 4870x2 or 2 gtx 280's. for a 4 K computer its not good. No offense... Just well you wanted our opinions.

dude 4870x2 any day over sli 8800gtx

also the cpu choice is also for 2 years ago, I'd say no question wait for nehalem with that kind of money, that'll be more future proof. And if you must buy now, go with an e8600 for gaming

is it a dual or quad WC loop? a lot of your money is being inefficiently used in the cooling. you're not going to see much performance gains with that much put into the cooling. i would invest some of that money in a better GPU, like an 4870x2 or in xfire also. 8800gtx for $400 is a huge rip off at this point

he is spending 1500 on the water cooling so in essence he is doing a 2500 dollar build

Yeah just you should actualy start from scratch. Go from component to component, and then whatever money left put it on water cooling. Not the opposite way around.

Get a GOOD CPU. QX9650 is best deal for sure if your spending 4 K.
Then get a 4870x2 if you want one card, If you want extreme, 3 gtx280's cost about 1100. If you want one, get a 4870x2 for 550ish and a EK block for 150
Then get good RAM. (G skill 2 X2GB DDR3-1600 is best right now for money, 7-7-7-18 timingS)
Your also better of getting a intel mobo if your going 4870x2. If your going SLI get the EVGA 790i ultra (319) and then get a viperjohn Waterblock for 100 i think it is. Gives way better temps.
your prob better off getting a Samsung Spinpoint F1 750 GB HD (120), or spend double the money and get a Velociraptor 300 GB drive.

For some reason you have DDR2 ram on a DDR3 chipset.
Also its a good PSU you have, Same one I have. (the Enermax that is)

And then spend some money on watercooling. Watercool your CPU/NB first, and then if you need to add the GPU in a seperate loop.

If your going SLI you'll want to just have one Loop for that so you'll need dual loops. And the best case for that is a Mountain mods case.

But for 4K I would really beef up your Gear and dump the watercooling. If you have left over money spend it on. And Quad loop kinda sounds silly. LOL

Okay, so I changed the video cards to GTX 280 x2 in SLI, also changed the EK blocks accordingly. If I were to get the 780i and change my processor, would I be able to overclock as far? I'm looking for an absolute max overclock on whatever processor I get as well as the video cards. Where's the FSB wall on a 780i compared to the board I have now? What are the multipliers for whatever processor that you suggest? I'd like to get past 4GHz. And I'd like to keep my temps relatively low so the liquid cooling system I have isn't really what I'm asking about, it's the hardware. I know what I'm doing in terms of liquid cooling.

I haven't been paying attention to what are the best products for a while now so I'm a little behind...

    Don't go 780i.. 790i or P45 for a Wolfdale. Otherwise get a QX9650 and X48 (Rampage Extreme?) or a 790i.

    This sounds familiar. See here:

    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...&postcount=105

Mind you, I'm not doing the tricked-out WC setup you have but the dual HD4870x2 setup will eat any config available. Cheaper too, if you consider the price of the blocks for them.

why would you waste money on sli gtx 280? Start listening to other people and look at the results, a single 4870x2 is in most cases almost as powerful or more powerful than sli gtx 280. Also the 4870x2 does not have microstuttering unlike sli gtx 280 (keep in mind xfire 4870x2 will have microstuttering).

Not to mention no sense in spending over $1k in watercooling if you don't have the hardware to keep up with it. Here's an idea, how about getting top edge hardware now/waiting for nehalem, then upgrading to the best watercooling setup ever down the road. It'll be more expensive to do an entire system rehall than just cooling

    Rampage extreme, QX9650, 4870x2.
I thought that was a no brainer nowadays?
Although I suppose you could go with 790i gtx 280 sli which i think beats 4870x2 in some cases, but 4870x2 will improve with mature drivers and anyone know if theyve fixed data corruption problems with 790i chipset?
