Get the Rampage Formula. If you are going to go all out, get the Rampage or Wi-Fi X48 from ASUS.

Best boards ever. End of story [least from my experience anyway].

DO NOT BUY A GIGABYTE BOARD for the love of $5k builds dont. Rampage Extreme or DFI x48 T3RS or Foxconn Blackops ONLY

otherwise this looks great, sounds like an awesome build. word has it that swiftech is releasing a new WC kit with the apogee GTZ and an MCR320 so i would definitely wait for that kit for best cooling

Where's the Western Digital Velociraptor? It's a good drive. A couple in mirrored RAID would be a good idea. Stable.

Because I heard they have the worst transfer rates.

One I read up on had 58MBps. Forgot which one it was.

Must have been an old one. I'm talking about the new Western Digital Velociraptor VR150.

BTW. SSDs cannot be defragmented. Reduces life. Don't know how it affects performance.

Interesting, I didn't know that. I'm a defrag nut, I run VoptXP on a fairly regular basis and I will on the SSD once everything's loaded. But... I intend to use the SSD for my system drive for the OS only. I don't run a swap (uh why would I?) and my desktop will actually be on my e:\ drive, RAID-5.

You are lucky in not running a swap/page file that some programs dont FAK up. Some applications NEED a pagefile defined.

This is not true. The mtron drives are rated at 50GB of writes per day for 140 years. And defragmentation only affects performance on writes, not reads.

I haven't run a swap in over 5 years. My old P4 workhorse had 2GB of Corsair, only 3-4 times did I ever run low. SWAP is a HD killer and a time waster and the ONLY time I ever ran into a SWAP requirement was with games.

LIke I said, you are lucky. Like I also said, I use the begining of a different HDD for my swap file so I dont have those issues.

Aren't Raptors used for access speeds and not transfer speeds? I doubt anyone with 1 or 2 raptors are going to be copying 40GB files across each drive

Linky to this bad boy? Like I said (a few times now) I've set aside $10k for a personal Nehalem build when it's available - oct/nov? I'd like to see this Nehalem box.

It's pain in the to OC it, therefore I OC only in 800 -> 1066 range
over 1100 Is unstable as hell , If I put more NB + Memory V it gets too hot for my taste , but I'm fine with the frequency of it now
