    The TweakTown test is bad: Q6600 @ 3 Ghz, Vista with only 2 GB PC6400 RAM, and then Catalyst 8.7 that doesn't even support 4870X2.

    Mascara's Crysis numbers are also a tad higher than should because he did the gpu bench instead of the (true game reflecting) time demo bench like Assault_Harbor

    same way as HD4850 and HD4870

    go to CCC , unlock the overdrive , create a profile and Save !

    then go to

    windows XP >> C:\Documents and Settings\username \Local Settings\Application Data\ATI\ACE\profile created in CCC .XML >>> Open with Notepad

    or

    windows vista >> C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\ATI\ACE\profile created in CCC .XML >>> Open with Notepad

    then change "ATOMATIC" to "MANUAL"

    and "Want" value="xx" >>> xx= value you want for fan speed (example : "30" = 30% or "45" = 45%)

    HD4850/4870 Fan Fix!

    if you make a profile in catalyst after turning on Overdrive( make sure clock and memory settings are correct).

    Then You can then go to the file "C:\Users\Bretware(username)\AppData\Local\ATI\ACE \Bretw are. XML. the xml file will have the same name as the catalyst profile you saved. right click and hit edit.

    <Feature name="FanSpeedAlgorithm_0">
    <Property name="FanSpeedAlgorithm" value="Manual" />
    </Feature>
    <Feature name="FanSpeedRPMTarget_0">
    <Property name="Want" value="0" />
    </Feature>
    <Feature name="FanSpeedPercentTarget_0">
    <Property name="Want" value="65" />

    Change the value to "manual" and Want value to "65"

    Save the file then reload your profile in catalyst.

    65% seemed perfect for me, 70% was loud but you may need it if your case has poor air flow.

    Good Luck ,bretware

    Thanks I see. Another question: if I have two monitors plugged in does that mean crossfire powers one monitor each (as overdrive is grayed out and for hd4870x2 theres two options for both monitors). Do I need to run it in single screen mode to get crossfire on main display?

    Thanks unborn. Mascaras: I did that but it doesn't seem to be working (overdrive is enabled). The gpu temps climb and I do not hear the fan turn on (but I do hear it at pc startup and it's loud. I would've heard it if it was working in windows). My cusom profile is loaded and has this:
    - <Feature name="OverclockEnabled">
    <Property name="OverclockEnabledProperty" value="True" />
    </Feature>
    - <Feature name="FanSpeedProtocol_0">

    You must load ("Activate") that profile in CCC>Overdrive for it to work.

    I'm a bit confused. I have unlocked overdrive. I have edited the xml to that fan speed. I then closed catalyst, reopened it and went profile -> active profile -> testing.

    Here is a question.

    I currently have a 9800GTX 512. However, I run a 32 inch 1080p monitor. Will I see a big leap in FPS if I purchase this card, or should I wait a generation?

    Ive been wondering the same thing, if it is worth upgrading from my 8800gtx. so far, it looks like the answer is yes.

    not that there is anything I cant max on my current card, I just cant max some stuff with AA. I'll probably order a 4870 x2 this weekend :-)

    Lack of Vista SP1 or CF/SLI hotfixes lead to scaling issues . Make sure that you have installed Vista SP1 .

    Good luck .

    I didnt do anything , just install game and run ! ( i already runned the benchamrks over and over again , and always same results )

    are you using catalyst 8.8 beta ???? (not the 380mb version , thats not 8.8 beta)

    with catalyst of CD Bundle i also had less performance (about -7 fps @ crysis ) , but with catalyst 8.8 beta = 6/7 fps increase

    my friend also bought a 4870X2 3 days ago , and with 8.8 beta have same results !

    whats your motherboard??

    do you have windows Vista 64bit Ultimate service pack 1???
