4870x2 is much smaller,62mm of crossing,50mm square is too big
you also need to escape PCIe power & Bridge chip

Just to confirm, there is a shim around the die that we need to avoid?

    thanks hicookie
T_M i pulled the cooler of my 4870 to find out that the core is higher than the shim so no need to machine an extra small face into the block.

now we just need someone to figure out this bridge chip scenario if the block need to fit X2's as well

edit:...anyone got a naked X2 handy who could tell us which components around the core are taller than the actual core?..and how far from the centre of the core they are

Is it necessary to use LN2 container for cooling NB ? how are you thinking about default NB radiator of EP47T-Extreme :

i think no need for LN2 on chipset since we're stuck on 500ish FSB

with stock cooling board pushed my qx to 551 mhz fsb quad core enabled ... and E8500 to + 670mhz . I think if you dont want to do +700mhz fsb, LN2 doesnt have to be used to cool NB

No you must use the supplied cards.
Everyone has the same time contraints - so all fair.
Modding within the time limit is actually pretty easy if you pre-prepare your mod components well. Soldering onto board takes only a few minutes.

Agreed, I can mod an HD4850 in about 3 minutes if I have the wires pre-cut and the resistor connected to the wires already. Hell, I can have the card going at 1.55v in 3.5 minutes

I have poured LN2 directly into the water-block built into the board for a decent effect. Would highly recommend not doing this though as the heatpipe is really good at removing heat from everything else and quickly causing the entire assembly to go sub-ambient.

sorry, do you recommend to pour LN2 into the water block of MB ? it isn't too tall.

I know that we will be rival, but you know that I am newbie here and do not have serious OC exprience, I am appreciate you for guiding me.

    Welcome to XS then!

When it comes to extreme subzero overclocking, don't be afraid to ask questions. Everyone here has had his/her first ln² session and most of them do remember how dangerous it felt .

Do not pour LN2 into the waterblock unless you have completely insulated all areas around teh entire heasink/pipe assembly.
After a short period of time the entire assembly will coat in condensation and eventually you may have water on the board/components.
For this competition, the standard heatsinks will be more than enough since quad core FSB's do not stress the NB enough to require cooling more.

you are right , I will use default cooling solution for NB, thanks again for your guide.
