@Op, i recommend you try a blob of thermal paste in the center of the CPU instead of spraying it out.

I get the same result either way, but I save on the paste with the spread. On the smaller IHS or die, blob is the way to go, easier and quicker. With the blob on the larger areas such as Intel CPU, I'm never certain if the TIM did spread out all the way around when pressure is applied.

I reached 475FSB but this was with 8GB of RAM that was holding me back and did not have enough time to pop in my old Ballistix PC8500 since I had to give up the system to a friend.

@Zone_of_Enders, post the stepping and results when you get it .
@ChaosAD, someone should ship you one from US .

I'm getting this chip 2morrow. Can't wait to clock this beast will be running on p5q dlx so hoping for a 4.4 on water. We will see. This chip looks like there's loads of headroom no1 is realy pushing the limits I'm sure we will see just under 5ghZ in the next few weeks

I would not recommend to run these CPU's at 480+ FSB daily... be realisitic and go for 4-4.2Ghz 24/7
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

475x8.5 is completely different, I can do that too its the x9 multi where you run into problems with needs very high voltage over ~455 fsb

Check the great White by scan they have overclocked the q9650 to 4.41ghz on the evga 790i ultra with fsb of 490 and 1.6125. So it won't be inpossiable to get that as nvidia chipsets don't clock as well. Yes I am new to overclocking but have overclock my q6600 to 3.8 and with help got my qx9650 to just over 4ghz with alittle help from alot of great people here on the forums. So thanks to every1 for helping me that and hopfuly now we will be able to take the q9650 to new extreams. I'm not a bencher. Just a gamer

chip killing volts are >1.45, you are trashing you cpu and wasting your money if you run this poc @ anything over that. if we all wanted to kill our chips we could get 4.5+ but its not viable at all for 24/7 use.

your being too y for your own good and picking a fight thats not even there, just don't raise your chip volts over 1.45, it would be idiotic.

I saw a review of that Great White in Custom PC and was shocked they let her run at +1.55Volts or such... really everything pushed to the maximum, would love to know how they handle their RMA's as there are gonna be loads of mobo's dying and maybe even cpu's degrading within the first year...

so are you saying that the 9 multi is useless and that noone should hope for 4.4-4.5 GHz? with 8.5 multi and pushing the limits of FSB, one can already get to the 4.1-4.2 GHz max then.

And you're on water. What is your load temperature? and your VCore?

Well the voltages you need to pump to get any high FSB at any multi is scary mate... We talked about Scan's Great White... I reread the review and it is clearly stated that it got scorching hot.. same here when I ran my Qx at 500FSB for a test, temps were about 10°C higher than the same clockspeed with a higher multi...

Eg I need 1.25Vcore for 4ghz ops on this Qx with 400FSB and 10 multi, with 8 multi and 500FSB I needed 0.12 more for the same, more PLL and FSB volts... which overal resulted in a faster rig but so darm hot too... so it would be better to go here wit 9 multi and 450-475ish FSB max... 9 multi (or lower) and 500FSB is insane for daily ops... not alone for ya CPU but also for ya mobo...

Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

My Q9450 is currently being tested at 8x465 and passed 1hr OCCT. If I get the 465FSB truly stable would this then also give a good chance to get a Q9650 running at 9x465? provided one would get a good chip?
