Don't get a Q9450 unless it's cheap - in Intel's price shuffle in Sept they will drop it and bring the 9550 to current 9450 price level. Q9650 (fixed 9x multi) will slot into current 9550 price. A few 9550s coming thru on Ebay, probably as dealers de-stock before price drop. I wonder will prices of used QX9650s drop? Do many people use more than 9x multi with them anyway?
My Q9450 is doing 455x8 24/7 on 1.336V (CPU-z @ 4 x 100% load), P5K3 Deluxe. More speed may be possible but I haven't found the path though I've tweaked everything I can think of without exceeding reasonable VNEs*.
Nehalem is coming very soon, but I don't think a m/b with 1336 wires and DDR3 will be cheap for a while - give it 12 months?
*VNE = Velocity Not to Exceed (aviation); try V = Volts here.

yeah. i would get the Q9550 but i really dont want to pay $550 for it when i get the QX cheaper, actually, about half of that!

im going to try to get a Q9550 if i can one around $350-$400.
If you are going to get the Q9550 wait for the E0 version to hit the market. Should be soon.

    update:

Newegg has the Q9550 for $339, so would it be worth selling my QX for this?

Like I said, wait for the E0 version of the Q9550. It will be available soon. And, if you think you can get say $500 (or more) for the QX6850 sell it and get the Q9550. You will then have an additional $160 to spend on other hardware and have more CPU performance.
