Arrow Worklog: Home made Case from Zero on MDF

Hi. I started another wooden case, here my old wood case for the downloads PC almost finished:
    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=181681

Now, the new gamer wood case, this is the hardware

    PSU: Topower 550 Watts modular
    Mother: Biostar GF7050V-M7 SE (mATX)
    Processor: e7200 (2.52) @ 3.86 Ghz STABLE
VGA: Sapphire HD 4850 @ stock (not test OC yet)
    Memory: 2x1gb OCZ 800 Mhz c4
    Disk: 2x160gb Sata 8mb buffer RAID 0
    PCI 1: Wifi Encore card
PCI 2: Sound Blaster Audigy SE @ X-FI Extreme Audio
    Fans: Enermax 120mm 44 cfm @ 17 CFM (2) and (1) Evercool of 6cm

    Materials:
    MDF: $ 35.08
Spray Rust Oleum: $ 16.05 (x2, black and white)
Spray Krylon: $0, left red from old mod
    Autoadhesiv legs: $ 4.60 the 4.
Hinges: $0, left from old mod
Opening System: Left one push and open from old mod
Rollers: $0, left from old mod
    Tape Role: $ 4,40
Wax: $9,15, to pass when i finish the mod
    Total: $ 85,33 (pesos argentinos) (27 dollars)
Left to add the buttons for power and reset that i've to buy

The idea, its to do the smallest, silent, Oced, and good cooled case possible.

To minimize the size, i wont gona put DVDrw, if i've to use DVD I used one by USB. But been the gamer pc, I only need teh dvd to install the games :p

The Material to use is MDF of 9mm (3.54 inches)

    The final measures will be:
    Height: [B] 36 cm [/ B] [B] X [/ B] Depth: [B] 34 cm [/ B] [B] X [/ B] Width: 20 cm
    In inches: 14.17 x 13.39 x 7.87

The hardware disposition will be like the picture

I decided to put the board upside down, because the HD4850, its the more hottest hardware from all the case, so being near the PSU, will help to rapidly take out the hot air.

The system, will be cooled by only 2 12cm fan (4,72 inches), one on the front puting air inside and passing throw the hdds and keep going straight to the CPU cooler, and continue going out like a tunnel over another fan on the back of the case, taking out rapidly the hard disk and proccesor heat working like a wind tunnel.

I will also put and small fan on the nortbridge

Here some pictures with what i do today

    Here wood without paint job:

Here with the primer from one side:

And here with the primer some hours later from the other side:

Tomorrow i'll paint the corners, and start to think on the painting design, something simply this time, not like the last mod for the PC of downloads, here the worklog of the other case:

Awesome, I just finished making a Hardboard case, similar material. Decided to paint it after all the cuts were done so I could get all the edges. I made my thread today, will be painting it this week. Nice job so far.

I'll probably just paint mine semi-gloss white, ordered some screw covers to give it a more clean look. It's going in a family room type area so needs to look inconspicuous.

Dude this is a wierd concept! But for the fact that its original and its modding proper custom style, I like it!
Cant wait to see the finished job!
Only thing I dont understand is if your going to all this length to make it out of wood then why not make it an unusual shape as opposed to looking like a normal PC?
    Project log -> http://custompc.co.uk/blogs/lippy/20...roject-violet/
Pls rate my rig and leave comments thanks

Hi, thanks. Respect to the wood and design, i use MDF, because its more easy to work for me than Aluminium, and less expensive :p

So i designed the case, the smaller possible, and good cooled

    Thanks

great job there... but be careful with the custom wood.
Basically it's held together by formaldehyde resin (If I understand correctly), which when the wood is heated, the resin releases a very carcinogenic vapour.

    Very nice..
Someday I'd like to see someone do a case in Cherry,Walnut or even Maple.
I understand using MDF for it's stability but using a hardwood with 3" wide strips glued up would be just as stable and a showcase.
Just need a poly or lacquer finish..
Damn I wish I still had my workshop!

Basically it's held together by formaldehyde resin (If I understand correctly), which when the wood is heated, the resin releases a very carcinogenic vapour.
Hi, probably, will need a lot of heat if that is true, i doubt it will hapen, and also remember, the wood have a primer, and will have 2-3 hand of painting
    But thanks for the advise

Someday I'd like to see someone do a case in Cherry,Walnut or even Maple.
I understand using MDF for it's stability but using a hardwood with 3" wide strips glued up would be just as stable and a showcase.
Just need a poly or lacquer finish..

Nice, but the weight of that :p

My first case was on 4.75'' (12mm), and its really heavy and a lot of weight
