Smile Asus P5Q P45 Pro overclocking help

    Hey guys,

Right, so when I was still in South Africa, I had a Gigabyte P35-DS3R board, which was great for my OCing needs - I had no problems overclocking. Things were simple and easy to use in the bios. I had no problems getting awesome bandwidth, and using my Trascend axe ram DDR1200 modules, I cracked 10000+mb/s in Sandra 2008 at around 500 FSB with great PL too.

Now, I have moved to the UK, and thought I'd try out a P45 board for my new rig. Anyway, I can get some decent overclocks so far (I only want 3.6ghz and 4.0ghz for some OCL leagues (friendly)). The problem is, I can't get a good performance level. There are so many extra settings like PLL, Termination voltages etc...

    Basically I need help.

I need to get 515 x 7 for 3600mhz, but I need a good PL - like 8 at least. I can't seem to get this right. I know my board and cpu can get 515FSB, its just so damn unstable at the moment. I can't get a full 3D run in.

    My specs are as follows:
    E8400
    Asus P5Q P45 Pro
2GB OCZ (ATI heatspreaders) DDR800 4-4-4-12 (This is crap I know, but I will be moving on to some G-skill DDR1150 modules soon) - these so far I have got to DDR1030 5-5-5-15.
    ATI HD4870 512MB
    OCZ GameXStream 600w PSU

So can anyone help me with some good settings to try get 3.6GHz with a decent PL? 515FSB is crucial, as I am aiming for 24k in 3D mark 2005, and need the higher bandwidth to be available. I can't get much more than 23k with only 400 FSB :/

Anyone care to help me out here please!

Thanks Pit bull Yeah, I'm sure this is a great board. The settings are just way more in-depth than my last P35 board. It seems this is generally the way things are with all the P45 boards.

    What're NB voltages?

I don't know the bios... But keep pll under 1.7v, vtt under 1.5v. What's struggling is your nb so check your timings.

    P45 doesn't do low PL

I actually just cancelled my P5Q Pro order and switched it to the P45-DS3L. I love the simplicity of the midrange Gigabyte boards for overclocking. Saved $25 as well.

For my part I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream.

Well on a P5Q Deluxe for 3.6GHZ i get 515 x 7 PL9 by leaving absolutely everything on auto cept ram timings and voltages and boom, sorted. Try 1.2v on nb, my P5Q Deluxe loves low volts there if im not ocing to hecticly.

Turns out I'm going to be trying the P5Q Pro after all. Had it on backorder and thought it hadn't been shipped out yet, but it did ship, so I should get it sometime this week. I'll post my impressions.

You need to get out of the 1:1 divider mate to get a lower PL..; 500FSB with 1200mhz ram would be fab, I would try the 9600 Gskill models mate, I have no idea when they will be released, but it's pretty soon...

This is on the dlx model... :

    4ghz though

Enable Static Read control for better bandwith and lower latency and clock twister... enable pull ins, many things you can try but it needs to be stable first...

    Good luck Yukon too !!

Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

Thanks Leeg, Mike, Ch@ps and others! I will try those settings out then. I wish I had gone for a gigabyte to be honest. I just prefer their bios layout to Asus' one. Leeg that bandwidth is great for PL8! At least I can see that 10000+ is possible. Thanks again for the replies.
