@ mrcape: strictly for benching.
I've had trd at 9, 10 & 11. Nothing changed so I don't think that's my problem. I thought GTL voltages were mainly for Quad core? Pretty much most of the settings are on auto or default.
No as you ramp up the fsb, the cpu gtls and vfsb must be set proper. That can differ from cpu to cpu so you gotta play there. But that is fun right?
I believe this was asked a few pages back, but I don't think I saw anyone answer-
Has anyone run 8gb of ram on this board yet? I have 4gb of G.Skill PC8500, and would like to add another 4gb to my "collection" in the future.
Main Gaming PC- Intel Desktop: "Monolith"
i7 950 @ stock (working on the OC now) -- Asus P6X58D-E
6GB G.Skill Pi DDR3 1600, 7-8-7-24 -- Corsair 1000w PSU -- Corsair 700D
Intel X25-M 120gb SSD, Windows 7 64 Ultimate -- 640gb WD -- EVGA GTX570 SC
XSPC Rasa, Heatkiller GPU-X3 hole edition, Swiftech MCR320-QP, MCP-350
AMD File Server "CyborgMind": X2 4000+, MVA-VM, 4gb RAM, 6.2TB storage, WHS 2011
Intel HTPC "Fei": Pentium 4 2.4c @ 3ghz, IC7, 1gb pc3700, 7800GS, Antec Overture II
Remember the Quad
I have:
GSkill 8500 2x2 which needs 2.3v to run at 500 1-1 (using now 24/7)
4x1 ballistix 6400 4-4-4-12 @2.2 (2 are marked CL11195.NW/97432 and 2 CL11195.NN/97432).
I do not know the specific chips used on either of these sets.
Both of these sets will run 500 1-1 with fairly high NB and FSB voltage (1.55)
If I use memset to change Ras to Cas read/write to 4, I'll get a lockup fairly quickly when
running Prime 2.56/w 4 threads.
I've tried various combinations of settings in bios, but I'm no expert on the finer points of this bios
so maybe I'm missing the obvious. This occurs with multi set to 6,7, or 7.5 (where I am 24/7)
Frankly I think I'm lucky to have a 24/7 setting this high. As I mentioned before, I would like to get the
NB and FSB voltage down and tighten the timings.
I've given up on that for now unless someone has some specific suggestions, in which case I'll try
them carefully and report the results back to the group to be used by future readers.
It would be good to start getting an organized dual and quad OC guide, specific to this mobo, to help folks along.
All hints, tweaks, bios settings, etc. are appreciated.
Yeah it's awesome quad action man! From what I've seen, 4gb is a lot harder to run tight than 2gb, especially if it's 24/7 rock stable and you want to add more than 2.3v.
Enjoy it.
Gee, that was specific
OK, so I was incorrect on the strap tweaks:
Top one is fresh boot -no FED1403F change but with a tRP=4 and tRFC=48
Next pic is FED1403F=23 (no other strap tweaks) I think I did this right but check me.
Quite a bit of difference in latency and mem speed. A tad slower in WPrime:
/add Note: My machine would not boot with Fine FSB compensation=enabled

i had but now i have it stabilized...it was ultra sensitive in saving at 9.5x...i had to work the vcore, nb, and cpu gtlref %...of course, i am using 64% for MCH GTLREF (445 FSB @ 9.5X).
if you haven't tried..try turning off FSB FINE TUNING...see if that makes a difference.

So we have these 2 settings:
FSB Compensation FineTune <- My machine will not boot or boot crashes if it is on
DDR2 Enhance Mode
Does anybody have the slightest clue what either of these do? If anybody has a contact at Biostar this would be a good question to get an answer on.
with a dual core i don't believe the FSB Fine Tune makes any difference..with my quad (9650), i tried it both ways...still can post to boot...i haven't been successful yet to get a P95 off the ground..tried enabling and disabling, nada!...might need more Vcore...or...my memory timings could be to tight...Prime 95 is not important to me since i rarely or never use the full four cores at 100%....if i can run 3D benches and PCMark 2005 along with Wprime bench, i will be content.

darn good Wprime!
still working on 500 FSB (8.5x) with my 9650 @ 4250 Mhz...not totally stable as of yet...might go down to 8x to see if that is successful at 500 FSB.
i did an excellent 3D2006 at 4232 Mhz @ 445 FSB @ 9.5x

An old water setup I've used since socket A days when we were bleeding near 200 watts of heat. The nice thing was the Swiftech 600x waterblock works on socket 775 with a 10 buck adapter they offered. I used to have a copper heat sync buried 6ft underground, but it got a leak. Now I use a heater core from a pickup truck in an external rad-box. We were kind of nuts back then

Has anybody, so far, seen any drawbacks to this board only having 4 phase power? It doesn't look like it from the threads I have read.

Nope, just as shown with clean boot.
BTW, I had noticed many screenshots with the cpu skew thingy set to 200ms. When I tried this my machine would not boot. So, I'm thinking not to use this with quads.
Basically auto on everything except setting divider to 1-1, 64 on the Mch, PL9, no finetune, 1.55v to NB and FSB, 2.3 to ddr, 1.48 VCore
Bad stuff happens everytime I try to tweak a bios setting out of the auto setting - so when in doubt, leave it in auto including strap and all ram settings except PL-9/10.
I think you may not get to 500 stable without using some other ram unless maybe you try 6-6-6-18. It is just so damn sensitive to the ram when using a quad. I tried 4 sets, and the Mushkin 6400 was very much like your GSkill 8000 whereas that same Mushkin would run at 525-550 topside on the IP35XE w/8400 with a 5/6 multi. As mentioned the Dominator 8500 could not break 400 on this board while it would run 500+ on the IP35 w/8400
What happens when you do 1 stick single channel?
i never seen that low of Wprime at 4 ghz...that time would be more appropiate for 4.2-4.3 ghz cpu speed
EDIT:...which operating system are you using for the Wprime run?

Here's my superpi 32M time.
I'm still about 30 seconds off where I know I could be.
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...&postcount=208
youngpro gets 10m55secs at 4015mhz.
I'm at 11m32secs at 4002mhz.
My times are getting better and I actually broke th 50ns latency barrier today with some more tweaks. I still feel that I have a long ways to go to get this board to where I want.
definitely the bios needs tweaking for the Quad...it did very well for my E8500...of course, i reached about 4.4 ghz at 520 FSB for the E8500...right now i can get to 510 FSB with my QX9650 but the latencies are a bit high and therefore, not getting as strong performance...it is really weird since i am using the same memory...i am trying some corsair dominators that are DDR-1143...not much difference between the corsair's & GSkill DDR-800 in performance.
i reflashed the bios...i also flashed the bootblock, nvram...it did make a difference for the DDR recomp configuration...auto and the sub settings are working with the corsair ram...i will check the gskill later on today to see if they work as advertised.
