    dead cpu?

so all i did was put another cooler on my cpu and now it doesn't boot. Doesn't look like i got as5 on the contracts because it looks totally clean. could it be that i put too much pressure on the ihs and broke the die itself? i'm thinking that's unlikely because i used a bolt down kit and i would assume it takes ALOT of pressure to break it through the ihs. Also i have a e4500, so they use thermal paste between the ihs and die instead of solder making it even harder to break from pressure.
here's some other information, ok so nothing shows up on the monitor AT ALL. the cpu fan is a 4 pin, and when there is no cpu in the socket the cpu fan will spin up, but when i put the e4500 in the cpu fan doesn't spin up.

Make sure the new cooler's backplate is not touching any pins that protrude through the mobo and shorting them out. I would doubt that you have broken the die with excessive pressure.

i actually removed the backplate after it didn't boot, and now i have the cooler just sitting on top of the cpu. It still refuses to boot.

Hmm. Silly question but do you have the 4/8 pin EPS cable plugged back in? (I had to ask although I assume you have checked all power connections).

Does anything power up (fans, HDD etc) when the cpu is in the socket? Have you checked the pins in the cpu are not bent at all?

Have you tried using the stock cooler again to see if that works?

HOLY CRAP it's alive, all i did was plug in a fan in a 3pin case fan connector and it started booting up! NOT KIDDING wtf could it have been, i just left it alone for a while and then i figured i'd try for the billionth time and i plugged in a fan in the exhaust fan connector and it works. this is the strangest fix i've ever witnessed

That's certainly strange! No idea why that would have made a difference, unless the mobo requires a fan to be plugged in to that header to boot (like some do with the cpu fan - it's a safety feature). Glad to hear it works mate, and no problem

haha it's my first time using a torture rack, so it doesn't require an exhaust fan because it's all open air.

I've heard of motherboards which won't boot up without a fan in the onboard fan slot, but not just a random fan. It could be that you needed to reset the power to the motherboard. Waiting that extra time could have drained all the power from the board and accomplished the same thing. I know my P965 DS3 is very finicky in this regard. After any large adjustment in either hardware or overclock I'll have to unplug it, press the power button a few times, replug, and it'll work fine.

Yeah I've only heard of that in regard to the cpu fan not just a random fan. Perhaps it was just being finicky and needed to have power reset, but that still is strange behaviour.

Glad it's working now for you anyway.
