I personally think 4GB sticks would be pushing it as officially X48 maximum memory per DIMM slot was 2GB , however P45 expanded this to 4GB per slot and along came some speculation that this also meant X48 supported 4GB per slot too, just at the time the boards were ratified,, by Intel, ASUS, etc 4GB modules did not exist or were not available so they did not test the X48 with 4GB DIMM's , hence no official support
I have read that quite a few people have had mixed luck with 4GB DIMM's, some can run 8GB (2x4GB), others have even managed to get 12GB working (3x4GB), however the magical 16GB seems VERY DIFFICULT to obtain stability with on X48 and you can forget about Overclocking with it

Still daily running X48 with QX9650@4ghz at 400FSB and 8gb rams (2 x 4gb) at 1600mhz and ATI 5870 at my parents... 8Gb dimms might be pushing it
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

    Hi soundaddict
I am using a 8GB kit as recommended to me by Corsair's RAMGUY
The Kit is CMX8GX3M4A1600C9 and works perfectly stable on my Rampage Extreme with low voltage (~1.50V)

Nope, I have 8GB and I admit that even 1600Mhz is not stable as I am running a Quad, but I can get close to stability, however am wary of frying things due to the voltages required to stabilise the NB and it IS running at high temperatures! (due to the stress of 8GB)
I think 2000Mhz would only be stable on this board with a decent Dual Core and 2GB of RAM (1GB per channel)

    Hello Guys.

    Old good Topics never die...

I am upgrading my old but mighty Rampage Extreme X48 Rig with 8 Gb of RAM with big fear of losing my QX9770 high FSB. My Rig can be seen here.

    Finally i upgraded from CMX4GX3M2B2000C9 2x2 GB Kit to CMX8GX3M2A2000C9 8Gb Kit 2x4GB Corsair DDR3 2000 Cl 9-10-9. What i should say, it runs very stable at 450 Mhz FSB and 1:2 900 Mhz mem Speed CL 9 9 9 24 88.

After that success i become greedy and tried 12 GB setup with 2x2 + 2x4 GB Rams. It didn?t work at 450 Mhz FSB. But at Stock FSB Speeds (400 FSB) and with 5:4 divider (533 MHZ) System boots and should work. But since 12 GB of Ram is not needed i stay at 8 Gb Rams and sell the 4 GB Kit. My next goal is to get some better 2x4 GB Ram Kit which runs at 1800 Mhz and Cl8 Timings. Just because the Core 2 Generation is the last Generation before the Integrated Memory Controller Stuff that can take advantage of low Latency.

After that the next step is to get two GTX580s and try out if the HyperSli Mod will enable some Power on my bold 775 Rig. We will see....
