    Help with sleeving

This will be my first time sleeving and I could use a little help.

1: What size sleeving and heat shrink should I buy to sleeve my fans?
2: What size should I use to sleeve the wires in a 24pin extension cable individual?
3: What brand should I buy and were can I buy it?
4: Are these http://www.performance-pcs.com/catal...oducts_id=2160 a good set of tools and if not what should I get?

Before I get insulted or accused of asking dumb questions that have all ready been answered, I did do a search could not find specific answers to my questions and if you feel that this is stupid then PLEASE just don't reply.

To everyone else: Thnx for the help in advance

I uses 1/4 on the fans. Get PetFlex I think it is called (that is what Performance PC sells). PSU and PCI-E connectors are a pain to get off . . .I have those tools among others . . .they are ok.

This one is a must for the PSU and PCI-E ones tho:

+1 on the TechFlex PET from PPCs. FOr getting the pins out of the PSU and PCI-E connectors i've found that sewing pins are the best.

Yup, get the Techflex. I have tried a lot of different types and that is the best by far.

I would highly suggest dual-walled heat shrink (adhesive heat shrink). Once it drys it ain't even moving. You can buy it for a reasonable price from cableorganizer.com . Shipping is ~$20 for just heatshink, so you might want to stock up and order a bunch at a time.

Is there a way to use the heat shrink with out buying a heat gun? And if not could someone recommend a good inexpensive one.

you can buy cheap heat guns at Home Depot or Lowes... but hair dryer also works...

if you need more heat, well, you know how in some salons, they use the 2 finger to block the backside intake of the hair dryer for lower air flow, more heat? that method works... but not too long... may damage the dryer or cause a short...

i've done it with a portable travel size hair dryer...

Lots of people use lighters . . .RLY . . .tho a heat gun also helps when you leak fluid all over you mobo so it is a good investment

I love this stuff for the 2 conductor wire at work. Once you get it on and shrinked, it ain't coming off.

First, heat gun can be had for $18 at Microcenter or $22 at Walmart. Don't buy the ATX pin removal tools, they will break. I went through the Sunbeam one then the AC Ryan tool before figuring out I could use straight pins for sewing. Get the ones with balls on the end to make it easier to push, cost is around $2 for a box of them and you won't break them. Sleaving kit can be had for $7 from Jab-tech and will include various sizes of sleeving. Heatshrink can be had for about $2 for a 4ft section at Frys if you have one in your area. Read this http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=196030 before starting to avoid a lot of the mistakes many of us make.

As an alternative you could also try not leaking fluid all over your mobo

j/k man, it was just too good an opportunity not to pass up.

Sometimes the simplest solutions are the best (w/ regard to using sewing pins). As for heatshrink tubing, I got some from home depot for pretty cheap, some will be better than others, but I think getting good quality PET is far more important than the quality of the heatshrink.
