I have a QX6850 that lost 2 cores after a freind borrowed it.
I just want to ask before I toss it in the bin
Is there some super trick I dont know to fix this issue ?
And why does it happen anyway ?

Ouch.... Unlucky
Poor thing - I always wondered what 1 of those bad boys would be like to OC

Swift_Wraith : "could someone please check bex for a penis?"
some1 had that befor i think that the fix was to RMA but thats not an option for your chip from the sound of it
ot----
why toss it, an unlocked dual core would be awesome

I would ditch that friend let him get ya a new one... what did he do ? too much Vcore ?
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved
Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree
Well he says he dosent know....
Problem is it uses the same amount of power as a normal QX6850.
It shows 4 cores in Cpu-Z, It calculates on 4 cores in Wprime, It has 4 cores in windows.
But it only gives 2 core scores
Im not sure if it is to much Vppl, VTT/Vfsb or just Vcore.

Hell yes its a mini-ITX gaming rig!
Once I went over to a friend's house and we put his athlon xp 1800+ into a motherboard I just got and it fried the chip. I replaced his athlon xp 1800+ the next day, but I never heard the end of it. It's one thing if he broke the chip but that is a chance you take when you give your hardware to others. by the sound of it I don't think the chip is broken.
have you tried to run prime or OCCT?

check your numproc in msconfig.
Current Status - Testing & Research
Well I have only tested it in maximus Extreem.
And it runs Prime fine.
I never use OCCT but when Im done testing this cpu under water I will check once more.
I dont need it to OC to 4.5 Ghz or anything.
Would just like it to run at default speeds in a friends machine or something...
I did
Everything was normal....
I just hope I have to give him an apology for mistaken.
I will update the thread when I test next time!
Ouch... Never heard of something like that... Maybe check BIOS settings again? I don't think a quaddie would even run if two cores were dead.
1.7%
I don't think your quaddie is dead... try reinstalling windows.

don't know if you fixed it or not, but maybe you need to activate the extra two cores in bios. I have seen that happen before.
