Took a trip to Point Lobos with a local photo group... so I had access to some REALLY nice lenses like the 16-35mm f/2.8 (the one I used the most) and the 70-200 f/2.8.
Enjoy and critique!

Awesome pics man. Makes me want to go to the beach haha.
16mm with a crop sensor frame (1.6x). If it were a full sized sensor the pic would be larger.
I wish I had the money for a full framed camera.....
but the 30D is fine for me.
And omigosh, that 70-200mm, that thing IS BEAST as you say it. My dad has the IS version of that lense..... it's crazy. But very heavy.... not something you want to lug around at a large event.

Ground exposure and sharpness are great...but it's too bad the sky is blown in nearly all of them.
Have you thought about exposure blending or HDR?

This one is with exposure blending (made three pictures 2 stops apart with Lightroom):
And HDR:
I like the exposure blended one better.
Kind of hard to determine what the focal point is. A larger aperture shot would of been more fitting here i think. The sky could use some exposure blending as well
Not really sure about this one. Kind of an uninteresting shot
This is a good photo but would of been even better if the aperture was a bit lower. It looks like 120mm f5.6 or something like that. Something closer to f3 would of been more appropriate IMO
Good photo. The angle of the shot isn't the greatest but you probably couldn't of changed that.
Good concept, not sure how well its working though. Good to see you trying new things
This one really sufferes from no defined focal point and theres really nothing there to keep the photo interesting. I think maybe laying on the ground to take the shot (so the POV is slightly elevated off the log, point the camera at the log and take the photo of a large aperture and maybe do some post processing to make it very moody and sort stormy.
Suffers from the same problems as the photo above.
For this shot i would of used the 70-200mm lens and i would of got a close up on a part of the tree. I would of used close to full zoom length (maybe closer to 150) and used an aperture of like 6.8 so the surrounding sea would of been blurry but visible. Sort of like this photo. http://rekit.deviantart.com/art/Sunny-Side-Up-89879743 (nudity warning)
The last 2 photos are good, they need some exposure blending though to get some sky in there!
Your improving rapidly, keep going
Thank you, that post was extremely helpful and motivating.
No problem.
It's all personal opinion. I didn't find anything really wrong with the photos other than the blown sky.

IMO, these three pics are the only ones that I'm not sure about...... as Cold fussion said, theres no real focal point in them, I'd say there a little... eh, dry? Ya know what I mean?
(just some constructive criticism)
I really like the ones with the water and green plants though.... just gives me that worm fuzzy feeling inside.
And I can also agree with Soulburner here, the sky is blown in a lot of the pics, but you couldn't really help that, it just depends on the weather up where you are.
Good job Nate!!!!!!!

Yeah, the weather wasn't the greatest... sunny, but with smoke in the air from all the fires...
