Thank you Saaya. I was directed here from the OC forum I'm usually at in order to better understand the board as well as the difficulties I could face, and they also specifically stated that you would be able and more than willing to help. Needless to say, I look forward to the build and to maybe contributing my findings, if any....

Now I see that a previous poster got 8GB of the Special Ops Urban Elite OCZ 1600 to work @ 1700, and then had problems with 4GB.... Unfortunately, I pulled the trigger on 2x2 GB before the second post about the problems with two sticks, so I hope I can get it working....

Well the OCZ Special Ops Urban Elite (2x2 GB) is working for me so far, and rock solid stable. 8-8-8-24 2T 1.955V 1:4 (333) @ 421 FSB. I'll keep trucking tonight if possible, but it's stable so far at 1684MHz. Passes memtest with 0 errors through 200% at least. Also, Intel burn test passes 20 tests with a max temp of 69-70C.

I'm in an OC rut on my system now with the RAM. Highest I've gotten it to clock on 1.9V is 1684. I can get the CPU stable at 4.01GHz (445 FSB), which is where I want it, but I then have to move the RAM down to 1:3.2. That means I'm running at 1425. 1:4 would give me 1780MHz, which is where I would like to be. I'm at 1.9V (which is what it's rated for), 8-8-8-24 2T. Should I try increasing the voltage, or loosening the timings? If so, what would be some reasonable settings? 9-9-9-24? 2.1V?

Try with the same voltage, but raise latency (9-9-9-24)... If you can't boot or it isn't stable, then higher voltage also wouldn't help...

I will try that when I get home tonight. Looks like I'll either be running 4.01GHz with 1425MHz RAM, or 3.8GHz with 1700MHz RAM. I guess which one depends on how tight I can get the timings to go at 1425MHz.

Oh, and by the way, these sticks run better in the white slots (2 and 4) for sure. They are definitely more stable at higher clocks than when they were in 1 and 3.

OK got my hands on the OCZ Flex EX earlier this weekend, and started to fool around with them a bit. Claimed timings are 8-8-8-30, but I tried that on the 1:4 333 divider, and no luck. 490 seemed to at least boot (54 beeping, then cycled power, and it at least kept me out of OC recovery), but I'm thinking these sticks may be problematic by nature. Reading reviews on other forums and sites seems to lead me to believe even the people with the 790 digi boards are having issues getting 8-8-8. I had the Spec Ops Urban Elite before, but anything over 1700MHz was a crapshoot as far as stability went. I think I'd be happy at 1800-1900 at the rated timings, but I just wanted to see first if they ran as rated.

BTW, I'm limited to the white slots because of the size of these monsters, but that's where my Spec Ops RAM worked better anyway.

So far my settings I'm trying are 8-8-8-30, 2T, tRFC 88-92 (as per OCZ Support). Vdimm is 1.993 I believe. I was reading through some posts which stated that slots 3 and 4 (or 2 and 3 if you start with 0) require GTL adjustment.... Is this correct?

Also, anyone chime in as to which BIOS would be best for use on a dual-core in my application? I'm using G30 right now.

    Kingston KHX13000D3LLK2/4G PC3-13000 DDR3 1625MHz

Another one of the "weird" Kingston kits, 2*2GB, runs 1600MHz at 7-7-7-20-2N at 1.878V (rated 1.9V), I can't get 1N at 1600MHz though it will do 1333MHz at 7-7-7-20-1N (1.7V)

    Link to product at shop.kingston.com

@ragingclue, I've tried the P05, G30 & G32 (current) with my E8600, they're all pretty much the same but the G32 appears to allow lower vcore for the same oc, with the P05 & G30 I needed 1.25V to be stable at 4.0GHz, with the G32 I am running at 1.225V (VID) for 4.0GHz also with lower NB and VTT (NB 1.25V as opposed to 1.281V and VTT 1.20V as opposed to 1.275V)

Anyone know about compatibility of OCZ Gold 2xGB 1600 OCZ3G16004GK? Thinking about buying a Black Ops and need 4GB RAM tho budget rather small at the moment. $45 after rebate for these sticks.

I think I already mentioned to you(?) on another thread that I have successfully run these on Blackops : PVT36G133ELK

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820220369

and these SHOULD BE the closely related to the ones you list.

However.. the price on newegg has jumped about $80 higher than it was a few weeks ago .. o_O

Did something happen in the memory world or did the manufacturer/retailer catch wind that these sticks were underrated?

O yeah, craaazyyy... lol. Glad 2x2 elk has the same price since I first saw in in newegg. and now 2 kits of 2x2gb (8gb total) is cheaper than the tripchan you mentioned.

thanks a lot XmikeX, what kinda OC were you able to do?.

I don't have the time, energy, or the required cooling solutions right now to go crazy yet, so basically i'm at the following settings :

    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...0&postcount=46

OK for benching up to 456 FSB ..and 24/7 stability hopefully somewhere in the 446-450 range .. as yet to be determined.

The performance is acceptable to me, although it is clearly not miraculous. Considering the price newegg had for those -three- 2 GB sticks $97 ($67 with rebate) .. This tri-channel kit was a good deal 6-8 weeks ago.

    Hey XmikeX, guess what.

I just found these and it's really tempting.
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...=PVT36G1600ELK

people keep telling me that these tripchan kits are specifically made for i7 x58 platforms, but you seem to have it pinned down even running that 1333 kit @ 1813mhz 1.8v so I thought I should just give it a go, keep the other stick in case 1 goes bad.

Follow up question about tripchan. They have XMP profiles for the I7, is there a way for me to change the XMP profile?

You could try reprogramming the SPD, however, if it doesn't take, you hosed your RAM. I'd just disable XMP and set the timings manually. Please post results with this kit.

    Has anyone tried these > Corsair TW3X4G1600C9DHX 4GB (2x XMS3 2GB) PC-12800 (1600MHz) XMP DDR3 RAM, 2x240-pin DIMMs, Non ECC Unbuffered, 9-9-9-24 RAM on the Blackops?
Looked like a good price @$141 aud, but only if they work...

I should have them by end of week.
All I need then is PSU and VGA card (next pay) and an OS, although I should (I hope) at least be able to get the thing to post and e3nter bios without installing an OS.
Might just have to use Ubunta until I purchase a Windows OS.

Anyone know if BLACKOPS and linux os get on?

Maybe I'll be testing out an unknown RAM and OS.
Hope it's not too fussy about what vga card I put in, the compatable list is, once again, short. Hope it's just because many have not been tried...

FWIW this OCZ Platinum 1600 worked like a charm in my BO. Even at 1800 with just over 2.0v. Fairly sure could go higher.

My kit for sale too (along w my BO). PM if interested.

    Are you addressing me?

I have the 2x2 kit running at around 1400 MHz. I cannot run 1600 MHz without it giving non-stop beeps.

Well, guess thats better thasn 1333, but worth the $$$?
Not big bucks so I suppose no big deal.
Mebbe I'll have beginners luck and get more out of them.
4Gb @ 1400 is way better than my current setup, so I can live with it.
