Yea the lead solder is bad news bears but it's the only stuff that doesn't seem to crack with lots of heat over tie. I have heard most of the xbox 360s problems all go back to the BGA Grid under the GPU toasting itself then melting an cracking. (X-clamp fix for the win.)

actually... i cant remember if it was that, or.. the flux which I had put into the holes prior to soldering - I had grabbed a syringe with a nice fine needle, filled it with flux & then squeezed it into the holes. My soldering 'philosophy' is: 'where there is flux, there is solder'

& as a small update: I've finished fulltime studies for the yr, & I've just started work last monday.. = $$$
so heres to hoping I earn enough between now & Christmas

That's a particulate filter, it won't filter out smoke/ vaporized lead, don't bother, the only time you need to worry about the vapors is when you are constantly soldering, like it's your job or something...

well I got a surprise today - my RMA RAM came waaaay earlier! I was told ETA would be approx. end of Jan.

anyway, so I went straight to testing...

I'm in the middle of trouble-shooting.. but.. atm it looks like:

    FAIL

I'm getting the same combo of diagnostic LEDs as before

    only other possibilities are:
    - i'm doing something wrong
    - the mobo was rooted before I even started

its quite likely I'll be buying another mobo & this time test if it works first

i cannot for the life of me figure out the diagnostic code:

    here is the mobo manual
if u go to page 131 of the manual (adobe pages says 143) there it talks about the error codes & the LEDs.. if anyone knows how to decypher the lingo lemme know, I can post a pic of the LEDs as there is a combo that stays light after power-up
