    Geil DDR2 8500 GREEN ??? 1.6volt???

    Has anyone tried these modules??
    http://www.geil.com.tw/products/showSpec/id/156

eventhough they'r rated 1066 6-6-6 @1.6volt, it could possibly be the same ICs like OCZ LV, => a cheaper alternative , cant find something on net

i hate things that are advertised as "green". memory modules use ~2watts each stick, so assuming you even cut the power consumption by 50%, you're only saving 1 watt. hey, maybe this will save global warming! anyways, ontopic, this is the lowest voltage i've seen for ddr2. i think some mobos can't even go below 1.8v for memory

i agree about the "eco friendly" marketing... but the point is , if they are rated at so low voltage (despite the 6-6-6 timings) , they have (?) a potential to behave like OCZ LVs, @5-5-5

guys ,u "get the tree and loose the forest"... , the actual thread point.. is not if or if not are enough boards provide as low as 1.6volt.. ffs.. thepoint is if someone has tried these modules, and what overclocking achievments made with them.... (3rd same post...)

I guess that nobody tested them.. as far as I know, any previous modules beside those OCZs, were not able to run at those speeds at 1.6V .. its very likely, that they are same.. If they are not expensive, just buy them?

    +1

i hope that crappy IC can tollerate 1.8+ volt 24/7 because not many motherboard can lower the vdimm under 1.8 volt...

At the moment, yes. Though the Platinum LV isn't as popular, it's just as good.

IF geil uses the same ICs... i dont see any rational reason (dont say the heatspreaders..) to pay +52.5% price.. for the "same" product... (according to newegg's prices)

UD3 series can set the voltage to 1.50V as the lowest setting.

They are available for ~60€ in Germany while the 8500 LVs are ~85€, prices have gone up a lot lately, one-two months ago they were 40€ and 60€...

If they were available for 40€ now I would buy a kit, but I'm in no way paying 60€ for DDR2-1066 CL6.

Well, i did got them when they were still priced 46€ (now they're 57€)hoping that they could be an alternative to blades since the last were not available in Greece...Can't set them at stock voltage...none of my boards goes that low...here's a close-up.. :

And here's what "Auto timings" gave me @ 1.8V on my spare el-cheapo system (notice that HT is 800MHz...on auto...could not even boot in manual CPU & Voltage settings) :

I'll try another board maybe to give you an idea of how they could perform...they run extremely cool though...

if you compare ic size you will see, that these are not the same ics as the ones on the ocz lv blades(/platinum)

here are results frome one german overclocker: http://www.hardwareluxx.de/community...7&postcount=12
i'll translate the important line for you:
    >>The rams are not scaleing with voltage at all. Everything above 1.8v volts gives errors.
with 1.75v he managed 600mhz cl6, but with 1.9v he gets errors. you may look at his screen by clicking on "screen in groß"

definitely not Elpida, or similar Elpida as the OCZ's.

Shape actually seems close to Qimonda, but it doesn't quite look right to be for Qimonda.

    I dunno...new to me.

Just get the Blades/Platinums. Their not THAT much more expensive and they look way sexier with a black PCB.
