    Interesting results...

I wouldn't mind seeing some overclocking results soon

    Is the GTX200 a huge die?Yes.
Does it have poorer yields and cost way more to produce than RV770?Yes.
Does it perform worse than 4850CFed?Yes.4870 in CF will demolish GTX280.
Will 4870X2 be faster than 4850CF?Yes.
Will 4870X2 cost less(from what we know by now)?Yes.
Replace RV770 with RV670 and GFX280 with G92 and its the same story you gave last time.

The fact that it barely beats the 8800gt is pretty disappointing considering the 8800gt is only 130 euro and the 4850 seems to be priced at 160 euro or so.....

    LAME

Unless the 4870 pulls something out of the hat I will just get a 200 euro 9800GTX

You have no excuses this time,GTX280 is not G80/G92.It's a 576mm2 monster that performs ~60% better than 9800GTX on average.Live with it.

Wait for official reviews and ATI Tool

Informal, please learn to deal with naysayers in a manner that does not derail the thread. Yes, I could get angry at the lot trying to spin this in Nvidia's favour when, again, its far from the review quality we see elsewhere, but that won't stop users from take a shot at the numbers anyhoo.

I know Perky, but Shintai is in semi-denial mode again..How can anyone spin a 576mm2 monster chip into cost advantage?IF NV is going to fight the RV770(X2) ,it will do it with G92 and not GTX200.

edit: I now see the OP updated the 1st post, the test was done with Cats 8.5...

The driver bundle is probably also 8.5. If it's the same as the "8.6 BETA"s I'm using now, they're earlier than the 8.5s in date.

These drivers even bork up 3DMark06 where it should pounce, obviously meant to discredit people who ruin NDA.

FYI I heard that Catalyst 8.6 FINAL has leaked to testers under NDA.

    4850 vs. 8800 Series
    4870 vs. 9800 Series
    4850x2 vs.GTX260
    4870x2 vs. GTX280

thats what I think which card will be up against which one, pricing atleast suggests it.
So as long as nvidia doesnt bring a die shrink of the GTX280 or a GTX280Gx2 Amd can actually deliver some competiton (provided they release the cards and dont screw something up).

Looks like bottleneck from CPU, most of todays cards need >3.2 ghz cpu clock to show fully their performance rate.

There is something wrong, cause we've seen much better performance from other users and even close to 9800GTX, so losing from 8800GT is a disaster.

    Nothing wrong here.

This is a single slot 4850 with a stock speed of 650 Mhz and it performs better then a dual slot solution from Nvidia.

Wait untill dual slot overclocked 4850's also become available for comparison. Get that GPU up to 800 Mhz+ on a Zerotherm GPU cooler, and it will cream everything in its price category from Nvidia.

Also, the drivers look to be immature still, and need improving for the 4800's performance.

    And GX2 is what, 2x328mm2?

And now you need 2xRV770 thats alot bigger than 2xRV670.

Even AMD says 4870X2 is what competes against a 280GTX. Thats right, 2xRV770, 2x512-1GB GDDR5. Pricy pricy.

I dont have an issue with 280GTX being 60% faster than a 9800GTX. Its you trying to gasp for something to hold on to the hype and dreams.

End of the day, nVidia performs better and nVidia makes money while AMD loses. But i´m sure you can try spin that aswell.

I wonder what the HD4850 can do with a 4Ghz yorkfield because the 8800GT does a lot better than that.

Even the RV770 they have not appeared, neither a mature drivers, but I anticipate that the ATI guys haven't worked very much... I believe that this new GPU will continue being a step behind from the competence. Putting a good price is a good way to competing in the market, but this is not an valid answer for the users, no no...

I hope to see soon good results from the RV770s and a better price of the GT200s, I also am waiting to acquire a new graphic card.

    Too early to be impressed

Yes they are sorry, I was thinking of the GTS.

What is the power consumption of the 8800 GT?
