And also what are acceptable temperatures for q9550 (e0) in stress for 24/7.

I am currently at 3.8 but hitting 61C in P95 at 1.21vcore ... it looks to me like there is something wrong with my temps .

I lapped CPU and HSF and no changes. I will reseat HSF today but it does not look good.

Your temps are great man. Mine are about the same running prime 95 with a Vcore of 1.35. I dont think anything is wrong, it seems to me that anything above 3 ghz is going to give rise to 60-70 c on the CPU. I have tried many vcores and with this cpu it seems that the temperature doesn't increase as much from the voltage as 65nm CPUs.

Also we have to remember there is no way we are going to run our computer with 100% stress all the time. So doing that just tells us that chances are if it is under heavy load for a long time, it will be fine.

I encode video play games download and listen to music at the same time and my temp never breaks 50 c.

    Hey Rocks,

    What is your CPU ViD?

Well I would not mind 60 - 70'C with 1.35v and 4ghz but from 1.2v and 3.8ghz to 4ghz it is still long way to go and I am already on 60 in P95 stress.

on 2.8ghz I hit 60 with IBT - today will come MX2 so I will reseat TRUE with MX2 instead AS5 and will see - maybe contact is bad.

I can always lap this CPU to death

    Cheers

According to core temp my CPU VID is 1.175v. I think I got a nice chip. It is the E0 revision. Yeah it seems that the voltage must increase quite a bit to get 4 ghz stable but I cant tell you this I have only seen 60 c when stress testing. The max temp I see when running full load games and music and encoding...etc is 50. No kidding.

    Hi

My temps are a bit hotter. With volts/specs as below - CPU temp 68oC (assuming tjmax 100), NB temp 61oC, SB temp 58oC, Power temp 54oC, case 41oC.

Am playing around with a 60mm fan and bracket for the NB. I tried the washer trick for the NB but it made 1-2oC difference at best.

Which bios ver. are you using?

With 1307 and 1602 on CPU I got 20 degrees difference between reading from BIOS / Probe (ie 20) and real temp/core temp (ie 40) - and it looks like yours match each other.

    ------------------

Does anybody of ppl who reseated motherboard cooling have screens of temp readings before and after? I am interested mostly if MB temp was affected by reseating.

    Cheers

mine was about 31-32c nb before, after reseating it stays about 30c.im on 1307 its the one they shipped it with. really hard to get 500 fsb, i can run orthos for about 1 hr @499fsb but as soon as i try 500,it gets stuck at det ram during boot. same with 510 or 533.ive tried raising all the various volts but no go .im thinking it the ram vdimm.ive gone all the way up to 2.4 in bios but that seems excessive.any help would be appreciated.thanks

Nice work Radaja. Are you setting the correct PL eg: 10 then trying to get 500+ FSB? Your ram should easily do 650 MHz stable, and your board should do up to 534 FSB stable at ~1.37 vNB with ram 1:1. Try using PL10 and setting ram 1:1 then trying to get over 500 FSB.

I've noticed my GKX kits don't like a lot of voltage when used with my Maximus II Formula which seems to be limiting my ability to clock them higher than 625MHz.

Here are my results so far. I would still like to decrease my CPU voltage but it seems that if I do it becomes unstable. Any advice would be great.

Odd, my CS GKX kits do 660 MHz on <2.3v. Perhaps its another setting not quite right, or maybe your kits clock differently.

Very nice results. With a 9550 I doubt you'll be going any lower on the vcore at that speed.

However you can experiment with GTL adjustment and vFSB.

I have no problem setting 500 FSB & Ram 600MHz (5:6), took 2.17 vdimm to stabilize the ram with my TeamGroups haven't tested what my CellShocks need. I think this board is pretty much spot on with the vdimm, I measure within 0.01v from what software reads with a DMM.

You may need ~1.35 - 1.40 vNB to get it totally stable at 500FSB with the 5:6 divider, I was totally stable at 534 FSB 1:1 with 1.37 vNB and I could possibly have reduced it a little more but I didn't test.

Ok I've gotten the Vcore down to 1.35 at boot (1.36 under full load) by setting the GTL volts, but I still have CPU PLL at 1.667. What is a standard max for the PLL? Is this safe?

    Thanks.

Standard max for vPLL is 1.575v, if you can reduce it to that or lower it would be better.

I have, and I noticed no difference at all concerning the motherboard temperature. Did asus ever get back to you concerning the MB temp sensor location?

Awesome man, I took it down to 1.575 and still stable...this board rocks. I had it on auto before. For some reason the BIOS loves to set the PLL high.

Lowered my CPU voltage to 1.352 and tweaked the GTL a little more. I am rock stable here and here I will stay.

    Idle temps @ 36 C on all 4 cores...fully stressed in prime 95 60-65 c. I think I found my sweet spot finally...

    Thanks man,

They did get back to me and guy said he would need to contact engineer and will let me know when he will know more - yesterday after 4 or 5 days of waiting I wrote him a reminder - so far no answer.

But what you said about MB temp, that it is not changing (in your case at least) after reseating cooling makes me even more confident that this sensor is somewhere on "open" PCB and is just stuck, because I see no reason why should it be 70C while exhaust air is rather cool.

I got still few day left with full refund without giving a reason so I am giving chance asus support.
