Wow, that is one sweet board, so where does the P45 fit in, in the greater scheme of motherboard users.

Is it better then the x48, what gap does it fill besides being very sexy and
    draining our wallet's

that's what I'm trying to figure out too. it sounds like X48 gives you the full x16 on the lanes, while P45 limits them to x8 in CrossFire. The other thing I'm wondering is what speed the lanes run if you have one VGA and a RAID controller? does it limit both to x8 in the same way, or could you get x16 on both in this case? anyone know yet?

    pmp, try different FSB straps.
I've just finished the testing for the Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS5 review at stock conditions, and I can reach Performance Level 4 stable, 3 is impossible ( instant crash ).
The Asus P5K3 Deluxe ( P35 ) can reach P.L. 3 stable at the same settings, [b]however the performance is the same. We can say that P45 PL = P35 PL + 1, at least under 350MHz.
Don't know when I'll do the testing required to start the overclocked measurements.

The results for stock ( they're directly comparable with the results of the Asus Striker II Extreme review & the Gigabyte EP35-DS4 reviews ):

Yup i just flashed it to 0601 to give it a try... Like 07xx builds it have NB/CPU skew implemented.

I tried it already, but with 0401 i was unable to get lower than stable 8 or unstable 7... 6 made a poo poo at any strap/fsb.

Not sure why someone should go for the p45 instead of the x48. I'll wait some head-to head bench test, but so far the x48 seems a winner to me.

The numbers are nearly identical ( p45 vs x48 clock per clock ).
The chances of you hitting 600+ FSB with P45, are WAY HIGHER than hitting 580+ with X48. [ just exclude the P5E64 WS Evolution because it looks like it's constantly hitting 580+ with wolfdales ]

    pmp:
    450MHz FSB with PL8 on P45 isn't bad.
    Don't know if you can drop it to PL7, and I don't remember if I can run PL6 @ 450MHz FSB on P35 ( I guess I can, but I'm not sure ).

either, you can use 4 or 8 pin connector, the cap over 4 of them is so you dont plug a 4 pin connector in the wrong half (even though its not really necessary because it wont fit in the wrong half without force).

OIC I asked that cause that's how I burned my old motherboard but a little different story. Any way thanks.

    Gigabyte GA-EP45T-DS5 - PCB Rev0.3 - BIOS D21 ( buggiest BIOS ever )
Unfortunately the FSB/DRAM Ratio 1/2 isn't working, and I had to settle down for DDR3-1333 instead of DDR3-1600 ( the setting I used for the other motherboards )

Stock results left - Overclocked results on the right

The stock & overclocked results are comparable with the ones in the Striker II Extreme and the Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS4 review.
Although the battle isn't fair on every test due to the lower memory frequency ( compared to the Striker II Extreme and the P5K3 Deluxe ), but that's life...either get it sorted, or "move on" and live with it.

non rog p45 is somewhat avalaible, the other you will have to wait a bit.. so depends on how good you can control the urge to buy now

The rog boards come with more bios options which is always good, so if you love tinkering with the bios for the last few % speed then I'd say wait for the maximus II formula.

ahhH! i check everyday on newegg if it's available. i hope this isn't one of the last p45's to hit the shelf and i hope it not price gouged like many things that are in high demand when the first come out. can you guys all do me a favor and not get it, so that prices stay low?
