Just out of interest for people experiencing SLI freezing issues, my issues 'appear' to have disappeared with the release of the 177.x and 15.17 drivers. I have managed to play for long periods of time without any freezing at all, the system is rock solid at the moment (I am running 177.39 with the PhysX drivers as well).

    My settings are :-

    NB=1.46v
    SB=1.50v
    Memory (OCZ 1333 Reaper HPC, 7.6.6.18.2T with 60trfc) = 1.86v
CPU=1.1v (I am not using LLC due to it falling over with that enabled).

    Hey Slim,

Might be issues with regards to that mouse, I had the same model and apparently they are somewhat troublesome for a lot of people. Seems the tabs under the buttons go bad after a little while for one. Contacts either fail or were defective, hence the reason they are discontinued. Besides that they had a plethora of other issues so your best bet it probably to RMA it. I did and it was hassle free, didn't even need to send the original back and it was all free. I guess try it out on another system first of course just to rule it out. Good luck, I'm still trying to find the "golden setting" to get this bad boy stable @4+ ghz. Looooord help me...

Yes, I found out it was the mouse (tried another logitech) and you are right, I had those effects. I dont know why they are discontinued but I got it because it is (IMO) the best cordless mouse out there (I just love logitech). I did RMA today even though it came back to life, didnt want to take the risk of losing the warranty, (I did it through Newegg though so I had to send it back).

Good luck trying to ifnd your golden setting

Maybe this RAM won't work at all, ever, with this board.
The solution was to install: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929777

When you try to install Windows Vista, you may receive an error message that resembles the following:
    STOP 0x0000000A (parameter1, parameter2, parameter3, parameter4)
    IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
    • The computer uses more than 3 GB of RAM.
    • The computer uses a storage system that is running the Storport miniport driver.
    • The computer uses a controller that uses 32-bit direct memory access (DMA).

    Howdy Simon,

Are you back to using your X-fi? Or still on onboard sound?

I'm using your voltages now and am back on SLi GTX 280s w/ 177.41.

I dont know if u have see that, but on the Asus board, u can find two interesting post.

1/ How To Re-Apply Thermal Compound On NB / SB and Voltage Regulators

    2/ 0804 Bios

Ok, i use atm this new bios with your custom setup and it's perfect, no crash, no SLI freeze

I use too the last nvidia drivers, 15.17 for the motherboard and 177.41 for the SLI.

Hi mate, I am still using the onboard card, I only had the X-Fi installed for one night (the crackling and popping was too much for me and I have no issues with the Asus card).

I may see what happens in the next couple of weeks with regards to the latest Creative beta drivers tho. I can reinstall my OS in about 30 mins so it's no real hardship to start again.

OMG just EZflashed to 0804 and it seems to have bricked the MB. Won't post now at all, tried clearing CMOS, turning off power and everything.

Guess its going back to Newegg on Monday.

Did it finish flashing? (bar completes and tells u system will restart in 5 secs)

Since I found out my OC wasnt stable anymore, I always load defaults before flashing, but even with unstable overclock, it shouldnt have fail. Try removing the battery for 30 mins then put it back in and see if it boots.

Yes it finished flashing. I'll remove the battery for 30 and try it. Going to go play some xboxlive and blow off some steam while waiting.

    --edit--

well its dead. I put the battery back in and it still won't boot, I even swapped in some cheaper RAM. The power turns on and everything lights up but nothing happens.

Just put in for an exchange from the Egg. Going to try again because I find the board to be very aesthetically pleasing and would very much like to get it stable and working.

    Computer freezes after a while
    Hello everybody,

I have recently bought myself a new rig with a Striker II extreme, and have undergone some stability problem with my ram (I guess) and the sli configuration (since the freezes occurs in game, and mostly with sli enabled).
I have never OC any of my former computer and really have no clue about what to do and how to do it in order not loose some of my components. So if you could please help me (so my computer does not freeze anymore and to somehow OC it a little bit).
I mainly use my computer to work (photoshop, illustrator, premiere and a little 3d), but I also use it to play games such as Crysis, company of heroes, BF2142 ...
So if you could help get the most of my rig.
PS : I hope my English is not too bad and that you will be able to understand me, forgive me, I'm French

LoadLine Calibration ain't bad at all.
In most occasions, it's better enabled.Especially when overclocking.

    Freezing fixed... I HOPE!

First, my thanks to Sasmira for the 0804 link and that suggestion. It may have solved my problem.

First off, no issue with the 0804 flash - worked just fine, no motherboard damage. Used Ezflash (from 0703) to do it.

    My system specs:
    Striker II Extreme (obviously)
    Core 2 Quad Q6600 (G0)
    OCZ OCZ3P1600EB4GK (2x2GB, DDR3 12800)

Firstly, I've been running this machine for months now and it worked fine. Something happened which screwed it up... maybe a BIOS flash, maybe a driver or a combination of drivers. I don' know - I'm constantly messing with it. Then, one day (about a week ago?) the problems started. I had problems similar to others here... the computer would boot and work just fine for some period of time (sometimes 15 minutes, sometimes a day), then just freeze. Somtimes while I was on a web site, sometimes just sitting idle. No BSOD, no error, just a freeze. That was not the only thing... I'd get other random errors infrequently, IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, KERNEL_INPAGE_ERROR, stuff like that. Here's what I attempted:

    1. Thinking my issue was overclock related, I set everything to default. Still kept freezing.
    2. I was running 0704 at that time, so I backed down to 0703. No difference.
    3. Updated my platform, video and SoundBlaster drivers. No improvement.
    4. I have a dual-boot environment set up with the 32bit version of Vista on another HD, so I tried that, to eliminate both Windows itself and the possibility of my boot HD failing. Froze within 10 minutes.
    5. I ran memtest86 v3.4, left that on overnight.... it ran its tests many times (don't recall how many) and I found it locked up in the morning... so, that would seem to eliminate both the memory and Windows itself as a cause (running Vista 64). I didn't have any other DDR3 sticks to try, so that was out.. I was going to try a single stick but memtest seemed to indicate there was not need as the memory tested ok.
    6. I pulled a multimeter to see if by chance my power supply was flaky but both the 12v and 5v lines were solid... 12.1v and just a little under 5v.

Finally I ran across the post in this forum from Sasmira, so decided to try the 0804 bios. No lockups since then. It's been almost 2 days which is a record given recent history. I'll give it another 2 days to make sure it's totally stable at stock before I label this as fixed, but looking good so far.

Back to overclocking after that! Before these problems, I only managed to get a stable 3.2 out of this chip and I KNOW it can do better (I have another Q6600 G0 stable at 3.5 on a Maximus Formula SE board).

Hope this helps someone out there..

    Hey Cartephilus
I also got somewhat excited with 0804 (For some reason, windows welcome sound will get distorted if my OC is not stable). Well with 0804 the welcome sound played good and I had no video freezes for the first time. Unfortunately, when I tried an HD movie, it froze and then problems came back so Im just RMAing my board.
I hope your problem was just the BIOS because it would suck to find out you need to keep trying voltages etc

    Good luck

Had corruption issues with all bios's up to and including 0804.

Been running 0901 for a few days now and so far, no corruption. I've even tried encouraging it to corrupt by doing some "metastable" overclocking.

    So far, so good..

    Ok, now REALLY solved

Ok, I spoke too soon. 0804 didn't fix my problem. In the end, it turned out to be bad memory. Wasn't easy to nail down as the first time I ran Memtest I just got a lockup after many hours of testing, which made it uncertain as to whether memory was or was not the cause.

So, I ran memtest again a couple of days ago, memory all at stock timings with 1.9v, and after 30 minutes Memtest started reporting errors. Combine that with the freezes at POST time with the LED poster locked up at "TEST MEM", and I had a good case for an RMA.

To finally confirm this, I got my hands on another set of DDR3 chips and sure enough, the system has been rock solid for over 24 hours... Prime 95 doesn't lock up at all.. good news.

So, that should end this story.. bad ram in my case.

Like many other people, I've had a few problems with freezes in the first week of having this board. I'm a beginner with this kind of thing, and the technical knowledge here has been invaluable. With BIOS 0901 and a little boost to my RAM voltage, I can keep the system going a lot longer than ever before.

I don't know if this is significant, or simply an accidental mislabelling. Having had problems with one ASUS board before, I installed as little as possible from the ASUS supplied disc and went to the site for the latest updates instead. However, under "Chipset" > "Chipset Driver Package" at support.asus.com the file is listed as being a 780i pack. Is this significant? Seeing that, I got myself the 790i driver from Nvidia's site instead.
