Mozilla Shooting for Download World Record With Firefox 3

"Sure, Firefox 3 is the bee's knees (and has been since Beta 3), but will it go down history books? It will if it sets a world record! Mozilla's taking the quick and easy path to everlasting glory (until someone beats it anyway) by planning to set the world record for most software downloads in 24 hours on Firefox 3's official launch day. The exact day isn't posted, but it'll be sometime next month. I hope they've got some Stark Industries-powered servers running this show."

I'm there, on RC1 right now.

I wonder how much this will affect the internet as whole.

Ooooh, I'm excited! Still running Firefox 2 right now and I can't wait to see what 3 is all about. (I'd do the RCs but I prefer surprises).

    Glad I contributed 3 downloads/installations!

One thing FF3RC1 still missing is its ability to clear caches (or using none) or time-out a webpage loading. I have experienced some forever-loading websites due to cache corruptions within 48 hours of using FF3RC1 at work. That sucks.

But sure beats IE7's cache overflow problem and constant crashing from applets tho.

I use Opera on my slower rig. While its older rig friendly, the flash/web page support just isn't there. FF is comparable to IE, compatibility wise.

Yet usually you have to do so much less to make a web page work in Firefox the way it's supposed to... when compared to IE

Ehmm, could you explain that in different words as I'm not really getting what you are saying. All I know is that I can't remember to have had such a problem yet with my RC1.
Do you mean a problem that looks something like this: Firefox save all the pages you have visited and will try to reuse as much as possible when you come back to a particular site, am I right? But this 'check up' on old data sometimes fails/corrupts when it's trying to match it with new data that's being downloaded. Am I even close to what you are describing?

I liked it, but won't use it soon because of poor addon compatibility.

    Let's crash the internet!

Getting close to half a million pledges so far, hope their servers can keep up. Last times I noticed the web take a take a hit from updates were Vista SP1, XP SP2 and TF2 Goldrush these are mostly automated. Will RC1 automatically update on release day?

Really, just shameless self plug craze.

I'd take a gander here and say more units of XP get patched each Tuesday.
