Thumbs up ASUS P5E64 WS Evolution - Tips, Tricks, Mods, BIOS, OCing & More...

Received my retail today - think this board deserves its own thread here.

After some first results of some ESs this board should be a very nice one....

But I never noticed ASUS is using FOXCONN parts:

Now I have to do some work on it - will be back with new pics & results soon...

Feel free to post anything about this board here if You own a retail.

Now it's time to prepare the board for proper cooling - took me a lot of time to find a fitting waterblock for the NB - ordered it today:

Later I'll post some pics of the other replacement parts I received today.

O.K. - here's the pic of the stuff I got today:

Now it's time to strip the board:

Looks like taken from $100 board:

First test if everything will fit at its place:

Looking good so far - and no probs with the vid card

    After cleaning the chips:

Now I have to wait for the NB waterblock - then I'll keep on working....

@metro.cl : Have no SAS card here, so I can't test it. If You tell me where exactly the contoller is I'll post a pic.

I have no idea where is the SAS controller if you look at ASUS webite in the description they say it supports SAS with a Optional Card, but havent found any info on the card.

    Pics look good

Can't find further infos or pics......, all I know is that You install the card into a PCI-E slot, so maybe the PCI controller does the job.

Seems to be brand new, You can't find the card even on ASUS page or infos about it........

hahaha, the pics are good enough imo
    but please use thumbnails!
imageshack loading speed isnt what it used to be

and yes, the stock heatsink solution looks really cheap... the blue color and silver is nice... but the hetpipes look tiny and so do the heatsinks
but then again, this is a workstation board and not officially targeted at overclockers...

So the second chip is the pciE split thing that helps when you use tripple xfire... i dont think it gets very hot, its the same chip from the 3870x2 from what i can see, and that chips doesnt get hot at all.

those mosfet heatsinks are WAAAAAAYYYY overpowered imo
Just normal aluminum heatsinks will do just fine i think... just fine...

Sad delay - got the waterblock today - doesn't fit.

The hole distance is O.K. - but it only fits 45° turned to a wrong angle on the NB....- looking very strange.

Think there is a bug in the compatibility list of EK WATERBLOCK company - just ordered a different type wich has different mountig angle, looks like that one is the right one (I'm hopeful).

Didn't power up the board yet - still working on it. But I think it's using the same sensor like the ESs - so sadly there is only Vcore, 12V, 5V & 3.3V shown in the hardware monitor. Same with the temps - only CPU & board, no SB & NB.....

    Nobody's perfect..............

    @supa-fly :

    Purchased it in Germany: http://www.eteque.de/shop/index.php/..._Hardware.html

    hi

    receive mine yesterday finaly

i´m having a lot of problems to get this stable but almost for sure that is a conflict with the crappy ram ocz gold 8500

another two things that is bothering:

    - cpu temps of both cores are simply sticky all the time (E8400) even with C1E enable (already tried real temp calibration)

    - the vdim value read in windows is to much overvoltage than value put in bios (example 1,5v in bios and in windows is 1,8v \ 1,8v in bios and in windows 2,3v etc...)

instaling windows is a big challenge, it simply crashes ou freezes at several points and the only way to install is to put everything with default settings.

i´m with the last bios 0401 and already buyed another rams to get rive of this ocz gold.

the max FSB achived even with all the problems was 7x565 but almost for sure that is not the limit of the board since other ppl has already made better results (maybe cpu FSB wall).

PS: waiting for some tips camouflage so worry in mounting the system

The WIN install & stability problem is caused by the RAM for sure - with better sticks life will be easier.

Overvolting on the Vdimm rail is often seen on ASUS boards, but 0.3 - 0.5 is quite unbelievable, do You read the volts with EVEREST in WIN? Be careful cause this board doesn't show the Vdimm in the hardware monitor.

I really hate it to be forced to do nothing - but the retailer is just moving with his stock so there is another delay till I'll get my waterblock.

The board is ready to go, but I can't install it without NB waterblock .

So I'm sorry guys - can't tell You more at the moment..........

I want this board, but impossible ton find it in france! Damn X48' price.

I'm quite interesting on FSB with Wolfys. Should be quite higher with good clockers.

Gonna be good to see results when up and running my friend

All# with this board its very importent that you play with CPU GTL and NB GTL for stability and high FSB
