    Vista 64...Crash...Crash...crash

Im getting random reboots on my Vista 64 install. Is it possible that its a driver conflict? I get no error message, just reboot.

The only issue I encountered was biostars drivers for my mobo were listed as 32/64bit but when I tried to install them it wouldnt let me and said something about it being a 32bit installer and aborting. I did grab the nforce 5 drivers off nvidias site and they installed fine and thats when I started noticing the problem tho I will admit that Ive only had 64bit installed for 2 days.

Using Vista 64 here, no issues whatsoever. Reflexive Vista bashing isn't terribly helpful.

@ OP - so what exactly happens? All will be working fine, then hard reset with no error messages? Any perceivable pattern at all? Happens more when gaming?

Its a clean install of vista64 with SP1, no other things installed. Ill just be sitting at desktop and next thing I know I hear the post beep from my pc. Ive been for the most part just trying to get accustomed with vista on a spare HDD for right now.

Id disable auto restart but Im so used to XP that vista is like linux to navigate lol. I feel like my hands are tied, its sooooo much easier navigating around with XP. Tho I do like how snappy vista is performing, its about on par with my xp install, if not faster.

This sound popping isnt cool tho.

Im overclocked, 24hr+ dual orthos stable. Ive looped 3D06 for hours on end and even ran dual instances of CPU burn in for hours on end. Rock stable.

vista is much faster to navigate but it needs getting used to with the bar and what clicks do what

on topic, try changing your ram to looser or lower settings since 64but takes much more stress and up the spu voltage a small amount, also isntal the daniel k drivers for your xfi

    right click my computer-manage.

event viewer-expand errors and see what occurred in the "last hour" column after it reboots.

i am having the same probs with mine random lock ups and a lot of my programs are having problems and restart all the time, like firefox for example!

So i switched back to xp atm and will order a 400gb hd and put vista on there to dual boot, not trying to fully give up on it but it gets on your nerves when doing stuff and your programs shutting down the whole time!

I have one vista 64 quad that's been smooth as glass (my pc). I fold, use media daily, sp1 was seamless, and is a dependable workhorse of a pc. hardly ever reboot it.

then I have another vista 64 quad that's used by several family members. man is that a headache pc. 3 installs in the past 2 months. and the recent one had an ie7 update that fails over and over, even the manual update fails. which makes sp1 a no go. it won't even show as an update unless I hide the ie7 update that's failing, then it'll at least be avail and dl, but it won't install-errors because of the missing ie7 update. it's like an endless loop of ms turd piles... I'm seriously considering moving that pc to my office, making it a dedicated ubuntu folder, and telling the rest of the house to go buy a freekin dell.. and leave my shiznit alone..

Yep - no shock the culprit would be the Nvidia chipset. Clearly there was something not quite "standard" in your mobo implementation of the chipset that the standard NV drivers could not work with.

    Sorry for the trouble.

nVidia is a total disgrace when it comes to Vista drivers. I've had nothing but problems for over a year. A few weeks ago I let Windows Update find my graphics drivers for me and VOILA! No more "nvlddmkm has stopped working".

    1. Run ORTHOS at priority 6 (or higher) in Stress CPU mode for at least 12 hours, and repeat with the Blend mode. (If I'm unstable, I usually get Core1 failure between 3 and 14 hours of running Orthos).
    2. Run ATI Tool 0.27 beta 4 (works for nVidia cards too)(google it). Run for 6-12 hours. Make sure you get no artifacts. An unstable vid card WILL make your Vista BSOD (eventually).
