    ASUS P5Q3 Deluxe specs, pictures

Two native x16 slots, 22 phases for CPU+NB+MEM and 2.3V for the CPU

A while back we served you some information about two of the upcoming P45 motherboards from ASUS; P5Q-E and P5Q Pro. We've come across the high-end model of the series; P5Q Deluxe. ASUS P5Q3 Deluxe is based on the P45 chipset just as the other boards of the P5Q series, but there are some quite substantial differences in the power supply and layout. First of all, ASUS has fitted P5Q with true 16-phase power (16x1, not 8x2) for the CPU, 3-phase for the northbridge and another 3-phase supply for the memory.

The board has three physical PCIe x16 slots, whereof two are native x16 directly linked to the northbridge, while the third sports 8x bandwidth. If you're into overclocking, using exotic cooling, you're going to love the next little feature.

ASUS has added two small jumpers to the board, which unlocks more voltage for the CPU. At default positions, you will have access up to 1.9V in the BIOS, when you move the two jumpers you can feed the processor as much as 2.3V (!). Thanks to the EPU-6 Engine, power consumption will still be lower than with other motherboards.

P5Q Deluxe has a new version of Express Gate, which also supports photographs. Drive Xpert for easy RAID configuration as the drivers are already available on-board. Just plug in two drives and run. No hassle with floppys or anything. WiFi AP@n, lots of SATA and USB ports, one PATA port, 8 channel HD audio, two PCI ports, two PCIe x1 ports, and much more.

ASUS P5Q3 Deluxe sports DDR3 memory, but there will also be a model with DDR2; P5Q Deluxe. They're basically the same board, with the exception of no built-in WiFi with P5Q Deluxe.

What's with the multi colored ps2 port? I've never seen that before. Is it suppose to be like either a mouse or keyboard?

Yes, just pointing out the one port can connect a keyboard or mouse...hopefully folks will be smart enough to know not *both* at the same time

It's actually a rather simple and effective idea, hopefully other board makers will implement this, who needs two PS2 ports these days?...i can understand the need for a PS2 keyboard port if you have bios issues etc, still to this day some keyboards have USB problems...as in USB keyboard bios support and the USB stack not kicking in until late into the boot sequence.

But USB mice are everywhere and work, thus the need for two PS2 ports is no longer needed, we neeed to MOVE AWAY from this legacy nonsense.

What are the two golden plugs next to the audio ports? At first I thought they might be TV tuner inputs, but they look too small, and the picture isn't the highest definition.

Aha. Yeah. I can imagine they will have to put some sort of warning to avoid the 'OMG i had to modz my mobo to get both my keyboards and mouse to fit... this board teh sux' comment.

I agree though. ps2/serial/etc needs to go away, especially on an enthusiast motherboard.

And kind of on topic again, interesting number of power phase regulators. Should be cool to see how this pans out in the Oc'ing department.

Yes, especially when you got customers computer in service without PS2, he used some unknown schmancy input devices, and you need to press Next to install your simple USB keyboard and mouse. Worst part is that you cannot press Next without input devices. This is embarrassing!

thats not possible? the nb only has 20 pciE links so how can it be two native 16x slots? the first can probably be 16x or 8x and the second is 8x

It might be x16 mechanical, x8 electrical for the second slot. And if something is plugged in to the second slot, the first auto drops down to x8 so there is enough for the second card. It says the first 2 are native and go to the northbridge, so the third runs through another chip and is probably at x8.

Looks good... only downside is single slot spacing for the two x16 slots on the bottom.

P5Q Deluxe might be my next board. I don't need Wifi and don't have the money or desire for DDR3.

im not sure its 8x, it might be 4x as well considering other devices are hooked up to the sb as well via pciE...

so ideally its 8/8/8, could also be 8/8/4
What youd expect for a high end board is 16/16/8 though....
