Wow, nice score By-tor! Do a Vmod on your 3870's! Just a litytle bit of resistor shading, a bit of tape and 900Mhz+ on your cores.

Now I saw that score, I REALLY cant wait for the few parts I'd like to get soon.

    Nice work Ben....

Wow 3rd place by 2 points.. go figure eh!!!

Looking into a 3rd 3870 right now... But will need to load Vista (yuck) on the rig.

    Rammsteiner,

What was the OC on your 9850 for that run?

What do you mean by a bit tape?

It's in the description of the 3Dmark page:
    HTT - 217 [12.5xCPU | 11xNB | 9xHT] RAM - 1066 - 5-5-5-15-20 GPU - 904 GDDR - 1251

So 2.7125Ghz CPU and 2.387Ghz NB. No Crossfire though as the card was dead back then. But in the end that OC wasnt stable sadly. So need a new chip and get a better stepping.

By tape I mean to keep the graphite from the pencils there. It sticks pretty well to the PCB already, but with high airflows trough your case it might be blown off by small bits and in the end your resists will rise again and thus make your OC unstable.

Ben_Brown: Wow! 3.3 on 1st core at only 1.4v. You got a good chip man. As for the 3 way crossfire I didnt see much gain at all when i went from 2 to 3 way but hey, Im Glad it worked out so well for you. Way to go!!!!

EDIT: I read an interview with one of the ATI Catalyst Driver developers stating that on the Vista OS There is a limit to how many frames can be pre-rendered ahead of time and cached for faster rendering of the upcoming frame. The problem with that is that the number is only 3 frames, therefore the amount of scaling from 3 to 4 cards in Vista is basicly none. To make things worse he admited that they have yet to find a successful work-around. This was added to vista because of carless game programers in the past were using very large numbers of pre rendered frames that in some way could cause series problems (The type of problems was not mentioned). However a 4th card is able to take the role of handling AA and AF and other filtering.

based on this I would guess that XP would be the OS to use if going for 4 way Crossfire.

I read somewhere that XP can only handle 2 GPU's max, and would not be able to use a 3rd or 4th card. Would be nice if this is false, but I don't think it is.

Believe it or not I started out with 1.5 in BIOS and while clocking the cores in AOD it dropped it down to 1.4 with each increment I upped a core. So I just tried it with that and it worked.

I hope you can do it. I will be trying a suicide run sometime this week since I just got my new case. Has dropped my temps 6c degrees. CRAZY!!! Maybe it will be more of a stable overclock now....who knows.

I have a Swiftech Apogee water block laying around and going to try hooking a hose to the kitchen sink right to the water block and back into the sink. No pumps or rads...just str8 cold water to the CPU...will just have to get the temp of the water as close to room temp as possible. Don't want any condensation..
Or if we get some cool weather this weekend I'll set my rig outsdie the window again with the cables running into the house. Last time I did this with my 6000+ installed and was able to clock it to 3.528 ghz and run benches from there.

It was 6c outside that day...

Yet AMD sees and x2 and one single gpu card as tri-fire... why else would it be called crossfirex when using an x2 and a single while its only crossfire while using 2 3870's, according to AMD's catalyst control center. When the drivers see it as triple crossfire, it IS triple crossfire. Thats why we couldn't run the x2 with anything else until the 8.3 drivers came around...

It seems AMD/ATI has droped the name Crossfire all together with the new Gen. cards. Even 2 cards is Called CroxfireX.

Thats based on reading there defanition of CrossfireX on AMD.game.com (or somthing like that). They say CrossfireX is using 2 or more GPU's.

    Good job msimax
Glad to see this thread going again!

Got a set of OCZ Flex IIs, stuck them into my M3A32-MVP just to see what they would do. How 'bout 600 MHz 3D06 stable with 2.14V!

Here's a quick 06 run on hot air(stock cooler!) with my old 9600 vanilla.

Hmm... wonder what would happen with a 9850?
