lol the performance increase is rubbish

and look at the benchmarks in the mag review, and 97%!! ROFL

Nvidia have all this time to come out with something great and all they do is increase performance of games that already run speedy on current cards and increase Crysis to near playable levels.

I say from the given results the card doesn't taste nowhere near like a can of whop-ass for sure.
Go suck on a stick NVIDIA. I'll never give you my jar savings!

Agreed, terrible price and imo the performance is nowhere near good enough to warrant a purchase. Crazy people who want to play crysis at still poorish framerates will buy these but not many others i dont think

$704 can't be right. Who is going to pay that? At that price point it limits the volume next to zero. Maybe Nvidia expects to seed all the review sites with the thing so they can have the biggest line on the graph, and hope people will buy the $300 version because of it.

I mean it works for NASCAR, people buy Monte Carlos.

I'll stick to my 3870x2 until a single card comes out atleast 50% faster. Pricing is just...

All systems sold. Will be back after Sandy Bridge!

Well eleeter, They had six, and they're down to four, so someone will have buyers remorse and I can tell you I'm not one of the foolish who made the purchase.

I'd post the link but I'm not sure if it's allowed, but it is indeed legit.

I didn't... got two 4850s on order for $403 2nd day air total . I think that will out-perform one 4870, and I can't really bring myself to get two 4870s, even though I have a feeling the GDDR5 will help a lot.

I believe that I’ve found the part number for the EVGA GTX 260. It’s 896-P3-1280-AR. A search turned up 3 site that are selling them for $733.80 to $746.45 but all out of stock. The part number for the EVGA GTX 280 is 01G-P3-1280-AR. I found one site selling it for $760.78 also out of stock.

I would bet when these cards come into stock the price will come down. At least I hope so.

    Added:
I found a second site selling the 01G-P3-1280-AR for $704.18. Did you notice below they list it as 8500GT!

    MfrPart#: 01G-P3-1280-AR
    EVGA 01G-P3-1280-AR E-GEFORCE 8500GT 256MB HDCP 512BIT DDR3
    Price: $704.18
    OutStock
    Here's the first one.
    MfrPart#: 01G-P3-1280-AR
    VDO 1GB PCI-E GeForce GTX 280 DDR3
    Price: $760.78

Does the 260 have the same profile as the 280, or will it be shorter like the GTS in comparison with the GTX?

For my part I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream.

It will be the fastest single GPU card. But I do agree, price is a f* joke. A hard thing to sell when 2x 4850 is suppose to beat it for $400.

Every multi-gpu solution will have the "micro stuttering", but as long as the FPS are high enough you won't notice it. It's when things get low that it can become ugly.

This is my first post. I will keep it short.

This thread saddens me. I thought the g280x2 was going to be my messiah and free my 2560x1600 display .

Time shall tell my children. Until then, I shall continue to rock my 7900gt. AA FTW.

    Call me gullible.

What I want to know is how does a monthly magazine get a hold of a GTX 280, run there set of benchmarks, write it up, go to print and deliver it to their customers before any of our trusted sources can? I have never read PC Gamer so I don't know if they have a hardware section. They compare a GTX 280 to GeForce 9800 GX2 and Radeon 3870 X2 so they must have a benchmark computer they dust off occasionally.

I guess us gullible creatures will soon find out what the GTX 280 will do when this damn NDA expires. I'll be interested to see what kind scores you give it running 3DMark06, Vantage, Crysis, Half Life 2: Episode One, Company of Heroes and World in Conflict.

I guess you realize that my buying decision may lie on your shoulders as to whether I buy a GTX 280, his little brother or jump ship!

    Look forward to your review.

Maybe the magazine was to go in circulation at a certain time to coincide with the lifting of the NDA and got out early? Or maybe the NDA on print material is different. Or they could have picked one up from an Asian source and are not under NDA, who knows.

Remember it takes time to do hardware reviews, most of them are probably already done or almost done and waiting to be published.
