Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think memory speed is the be-all and end-all of GPU performance.

I'm saying the GDDR3 vs. GDDR5 isn't the whole story. Also, of course, memory bandwidth isn't everything for a GPU's performance.

if you mean the gt200 then it may be another high cost card.
    $500 seems low

I've put away £650 for it just in case (that's $1300)
the 9800gx2 already costs $900 in the uk ($830 if you know where to look)

8800GTX was $550ish when it came out, I don't see a reason why this card should cost anywhere near $1300. But then again, I don't pay VAT so cheers to you.

They also have this: OcUK GeForce 9800 GX2 for £328.99 inc VAT.

I won't be getting a 9800, I think I'll wait for the next gen ATI or 9900 in July, like then I'll be more blown away when I see the fps counter.

Because there's no new info on the gt200 yet and the topic naturally arose.

Nvidia Upcoming GPUs Line-Up For Q2/Q3

For the high-end enthusiasts segment., Nvidia will launch GeForce 9900 GTX and 9900 GTS in July to replace the 9800 GX2 and GTX. There is a die shrink on G92 for GeForce 9800 GT cards. Nvidia has also cancelled plans to launch GeForce 9800 GTS because there are simply too many high end GPUs. We told you earlier, GeForce 9600 GSO will launch on May 13th which is just a rebrand of the 8800 GS. The rest of the mainstream and value GPUs like 9500 GT, 9500 GS, 9300 GE and 9300 GS will come in June-July timeframe.

Unless the 9900 is a gigantic leap forward in performance, I am going to skip until the new cards + new Intel sockets.

one of two things will happen.

GT200 is completely new like 50% of rumors say, but it won't be out for a bit
or we'll be getting G92 version 1.1 and living with that for TOO long.

I think it will be just as they say, a huge chip, power hungry, fast, and expensive. Nvidia doesn't care about how many cards they move, all they care about is profit and the margins on these cards are very nice. They have the midrange dominated with G92 right now, good move for them to own the high end as well instead of more refreshes.

I don't understand why would nVidia name a GPU with a completely new core, which is supposed to be the real successor of the G80, 9900. Seeing how they named 9800GTX a card which is barely faster than the 8800GTX, this one should be the 10800GTX or something.

    Where's the catch?
    Core i7 4790K // CM Hyper 212+ // Asus Z97-Pro (BIOS v.1304) // GTX 780 DCII
    Corsair XMS3 2x8GB // Intel 335 SSD (240GB) // Corsair HX650W // Lian Li PC-A10

So much for GT200 in June. Meh. Q3 just more wishful thinking?
Sourcing parts for a mildly over clocked abacus.
