I've seen way too many GTX280 tests today [just before the NDA ends] but so far this card easily beats the 9800GTX but falls short in half of the benches against the 9800GX2. However I believe tri-SLI is where these things will dominate even though such a solution is not something I would spend money on. The idle power draw is pretty nice though

the power needed as listed by the guru3d review link posted above
ecommended Power Supply

So here's my power supply recommendation:

GeForce GTX 260 | 280

* A GeForce GTX 260 requires you to have a 500 Watt power supply unit at minimum if you use it in a high-end system. That power supply needs to have (in total accumulated) at least 38 Amps available on the 12 volts rails.
* A GeForce GTX 280 requires you to have a 550 Watt power supply unit at minimum if you use it in a high-end system. That power supply needs to have (in total accumulated) at least 40 Amps available on the 12 volts rails.

I just found the Guru3D review without seeing it in your post lol. Yeah not too sure what to make of this. It trades blows with the GX2 but isn't always the better option. Oh well, this one card does beat internal SLI cards so I guess it looks pretty good.

mascaras - yes it is (not in every game), but GTX 280 is most valuable with similar price ...

Yeah but Guru3D is very much up nVidia's alley . I take most of their reviews lightly, especially if it is an Intel mobo vs a nVidia mobo where they often claim instability on the Intel chipset. . .. .

We shall have to see what happens to the price of the 9800 GX2.

I hate all of this waiting, I want to see all of the benchmarks of all of the new cards, including ATI, in one big table.

I've had problems with my 9800gx2 and X48 under vista x64, but it seems to be the nvidia drivers themselves because the card with the X48 runs flawlessly under xp x64.

Oh man, only a bit faster than 9800GX2 if the VRAM is enough.

so far (esp looking @ guru3d review), the gtx280 is mildly disappointing

edit: something that does grab my attention tho is this: (again, RE: guru3d) the video transcoding does this mean, with the correct software, one could convert dvd isos to divx?
is ati gonna have something like this?
is there a way to combine both the processing power from the cpu *&* gpu?

but GT200 has advantage of being Single GPu (No micro-stutering and 100% compatibility with all games)

example : Grid Game not good with Multi GPU >> 9800GX2 = 8800GTS performance

$499, it would be interesting. $649? No way. I can buy a 9800GX2 for under $450.

I hope that we will see reviews of GTX 260 today as well, but that will likely be even less impressive.

ive told you before a week (in another thread) GTX 280 is not brutal powerfull card, is +/- the same like GX2 in games ... but has less power consumption in idle and many advantages against GX2 ...

I think we're definitely seeing some immature drivers here as well, the guru3d review is running into CPU bottlenecking at times too... hopefully a new driver in the next day or so will appear but I've got my doubts.

Yeah I know exactly what you mean. It all started with the the 9 gen series that was going to be 'awesome'. Then we got the 9800GTX and everyone said, "Hey don't worry, nVidia are bringing out the big guns next time". Well next time is here and I say to those people [who aren't from this forum], what is your way out of this now?

yeah.. i just want something that'll replace my X1950pro & that can handle crysis @ my desired settings..

I swear the day that the 2900 series got released u could hear the *THUD* as nv's arses hit their armchairs "ahhh, we finally beat them, now we dont have to do .."
~18 months later(now): resting on ur laurels & *voila* another disappointment from nv.. having said that, if ati fail yet again, it'll be another *very* disappointing gpu refresh *overall* (much like the G92 & 3870 releases were for me).. & if ati fail again, can u imagine how much the next nv release is gonna suck?? they'll just keep sitting there doing , till ati kicks the out of them - *then* they'll have motivation
