Help with Maximus Formula and Ballistix Tracers...

    Well ppl

Finally retired my old DFI Ultra-D with a FX57... and I'm filling like a noob with these new INTEL boards... I just bought an Asus Maximus Formula and fired up today with pretty standards sets on 0602 BIOS. My actual processor is an E2160 as I'm still waiting for my E8400. So as system started (no overclock at all) every thing on auto... Start to get all sorts of errors with Memtest86+ on these blinking Ballistix Tracers. I spend all day long reading threads about this board and could not find any good tips to fix the problem...

So any good soul can give me a hand?

    Thanks

I heard those Tracers are incompatible with the Maximus Formula. Check the Crucial compatibility list and you might figure why

Update to the latest BIOS and determine whether your problems persist. I am running 4x1GB CB PC2-8500 Tracers @ 1066 without any problems in a 24/7 3.6GHZ OC of a Q6600. I intermittently experience the 'DETDRAM' error on cold boot but this is a Maximus quirk (which some of us are unlucky enough to experience), and not confined to users with Tracers.

Maybe a good idea, but I will need some reliable memory before updating my BIOS...

Yep, this is a dead end for me... I see you have the same mobo, what memory would you recommend so?

Hy man, I'm from BRazil too. I've got the CRAPIEST crucials, the single-sided 8FE5

I have 4x1gb Ballistix in my maximus, "loud and clear" at 1100mhz 5-5-5-15
The Ballistix are extremely picky with VDIMM

enter the BIOS, put it in MANUAL settings, ddr2 1066, VDIMM 2.10-2.12V (maximus always overvolts)

The crucials Guys told me on MSN the the Vdimm is the problem with X38. and maximus overvolts by 0.5-0.8, so to not BURN your memory, set to 2.10-2.12V. the rest can stay on AUTO, just for you to try some tests.

It might give you some stability.

    Thanks for the tips!

I did some extensive testing and figured out that these 8FE5 may work stable under specific configurations. At VDIMM of 2.09V (BIOS) things got better but also hot, so I installed a spare OCZ XTC memory cooler on them. Heat solved, I figured out that by just having "CPU Level Up" set I got some stable configuration an this will be my starting point from now on. Problem I don't know what "CPU Level Up" is doing...

So any suggestions will be appretiated for monitoring programs as my knowledge is from the old NF4 days....

    Hey miptzi...

I see you are using Corsairs, did you give up on the Tracers yet? Can you share you BIOS sets with me please?

I just got the tracers as well since my viper 9600's were completley incompatible.

running them at the rated 1066 isn't a problem but anything higher seems to be hitting a wall..

using a rampage formula, will attempt more settings.

according to the crucial website though, these sticks are completely compatible with rampage, and maximus

Check my sig for the ram, it's the best IMHO with excellent customer support.

    redlines! nice.

Yeah redlines would work for sure, but you won't reach 1100mhz with those i don't believe. or maybe you will, one review was able to (550fsb).

I was gonna get redlines, but i'm going water this summer and i'm gonna send lava to my wolfdale to see how far she'll go! so I got the tracers, since every review I saw that oc'ed them was able to hit 1200mhz no sweat.

not on a x38 or x48 though, so hrms....

After another couple days on it... I couldn't find the setings of "CPU Level Up" does... and never could redo it manually... I'm tired of this memory, today I received a new pair of G.Skill F2-8500CL5D-2GBPK, they maybe cheap but work!
