I'm pretty positive the snoop filter will be fixed on this board. Because once reviewers get their hands on it and see the terrible performance. I'm sure Asus will take notice.
haha yea gotta have something to drive them to fix something.

Yeah bad performance is probably due to the missing snoop filter option in Bios.
I have it crunching now BTW, out put isn't too bad (about half of what it should be)

Snoop Filter its a option for Web server mostly , i have done some reseach with Tyan X5400 with snoop filter enable and the same cpu , mem , etc and the performance again its not the same , Z7S-WS again slow. I will install today red hat enterprise to see any benefit in web server , ggggggg

Just a little Update, I had some talks with Asus Tech support and they forwarded all the information to Taiwan, hopefully there will be a new bios soon.

I also changed the memcoolers for some aftermarket ones ("Alpenföhn Rambock", don't make me translate that ) - they are passive heatpipe-based coolers and seem to work fine, ramtemp is holding steady at 50C under load w/o any airflow

Oh, and I bought a "home" for the rig now, so that it doesn't need to lie on the table any more
What I got for it is this - will be able to house the 8 HDDs I have planned + more...
Got a good price, considering I don't need to mod the case for watercooling (wouldn't have time atm anyways)

They should manage to keep the ram within operating temps all the way to 1,9V - without a fan, yay!

Doesnt the buffer chip stick out further than the ram chips?

Yeah it does, pain in the ass to mount. But the ramcoolers come with 4 heatpads, 2 thick and 2 thin. I used a thin one for the side w/o the buffer chip and cut the 2 thick ones so they covered the rams left and right of the buffer chip on the other side. That way, the rams + heatpads are about the same height as the chip. I used Arctic Silver on the chip itself, even though there is a good amount of pressure on the chip and I was kinda scared it would break - well, it's tougher than it looks, obviously.

will they work with dimms in slots right beside one another or do you need a empty slot in between?

Yes, easily. No need to cut anything off, as you can remove or relocate the two tubes any way you like, plus you can nest the fins into one another so they will fit.
You'll see soon, as I have ordered another 4 gigs of these wonderful FBDimms (and I have to put them in the last 2 white slots for quadchannel to work)

If it works with OCZ Reaper, it works a 100 times easier with these (the fins aren't nearly as dense)

Not really, lol Eins, zwei, drei, vier, fünf and so on.
Seriously, sending sth to the U.S. is friggin expensive... I'll have to check other postal services if you guys really do want them (or anything other from here around the corner, like Mips/Watercool/Aquacomputer stuff)

How strict is customs these days, anyway - think they would allow for 20 ramcoolers to go as a gift

    Thanks for the German lesson.
I looked at a book "Elementary German" back in the late 60's and thats all I could remember.. Tough language, all in the throat.
As to US customs, they are pretty cool.
I've had clovers come in from overseas and other items and never charged but shipping costs from Europe to the US are a Biatch. Not bad from here to there though.

Depends on weight really, I can get a 2kg package sent to the US for 12€ which is okay, but anything above that and it gets evil (35€ for 5kg).

And yeah, German is a tough language to learn, wouldn't wanna do it - had enough trouble with French, but sometimes it pays off to speak a lot of languages.
