BTW I am currently running prime @ 420 FSB... hrhrhr

    jcool,
Nice work! I'd like to see if 450mhz is stable, if so, i need to know where you got those FBDimms! If I can't get my kingstons to run that, they're going back lol. The only killer is those huge 'sinks on the FBDimm's.

    ...Dreams of 8x450....

I'm really tempted to pick one of those suckers up to replace my 2 quad rigs.

    Cool

heh really cool , but you have a big big big problem , the bios that you have , has very poor performance , i have the same mb with 2 quad core 2.66GHZ , overclocket to 3200 with FSB 1600MHZ ( 400 x 4 ) and in 3dmark 2006 i have only 3200 Point in CPU and total with 2 x 3870 radeon only 15.000 Point , i ask for new bios in Asus Web site but nothing for now ,,, http://vip.asus.com/forum/topic.aspx...Language=en-us

We have to wait for new bios , and for the real performance , the bios is with very lack of things , only 1/1 memory divide ,, you with 440MHZ fsb the memory are in flame ,,, 880 MHZ , cool it ....

The CPU score on two quads at 3.2Ghz is only 3,200?!?! A single Q6600 at stock speeds gets 3,200, so something is really wrong there.

As I said before, i think the chipset is completely limited to SPD ratios only. Could be wrong though.

We could use BSEL mods as a workaround , no?
BSEL mod to 400FSB and take it from there?

No, the mobo always runs the Ram synced with the FSB.
My Ram seems to rock though, been running memtest at 430 and it passed.
CPU-Z reads the timings as 5-5-5-15-20 which is ok for FBDimm I guess.
Speed is also read as 430...

Server 08 sucks though, don't have proper drivers yet etc.

Gonna try good old XP x64.

its not very bad in 3dmark but also in every multi thread aplications that have FPU , because in superpi (single thread) its ok 1M = 12sec. I thing its not north bridge problem , the problem its BIOS , GV1 / GV3 stage , ACPI , power management , in Everest CPU benchmark first one its OK , second very bad , third i slower that 2 x 1866 quad , fpu VERY VERY BAD , si-soft sandra the same thing , 3d max render the same scene its 60% slower than my previous workstation.. I thing its only bios problem , overclocking its good , performance its bad ... i run 2 quad core 2667mhz overclocked to 3680 MHZ with 1.3V .... Sorry for my bad english

How can you adjust Vcore in Bios? I don't have that option.
Anyway, I can see where this is going. If Cinebench and BOINC suck I'm gonna kill the friggin Asus tech that programmed the bios

I ask by email , asus support also on-line, but nothing happening for new bios. I sell at minimum 20 workstation in 1 month , tyan , supermicro, asus with DP and MP conf but nothing its so slow just like this motherboard. I have 10 pieces Asus Z7S-WS i have tried different configuration ... Example
PSU Pc power And Cooling 750W , 1000W
    Memory Kingston 6 x 1024 FBDIMM 800 or Kingston 6 x 1024 FBDIMM 667
CPU 2 x Intel Xeon 54XX Series or 2 x Intel Xeon 53XX Series quad core
    GPU Nvidia Quadro 5600 , Nvidia 8800 GTS 512 , Ati Radeon 3870
    OS windows xp 64 , win xp 32 , vista 32bit ultimate , server 2003 R2 64bit

Please if anyone have the same experience , post any comment , if anyone have a new bios i will be soo happy .. I have a very slow FPU and CPU power with different benchmark and software , for example 3dmark 2006 , about 3100 point , 3dmax 2009 rendering a scene with the same cpu its about 50% slow , in everest syntetic benchmark 5 diff benchmark very slow ... In Super PI one core is good , but the problem is multi core performance ,

Doesn't help if you keep posting the same.

He's right though, I just ran Cinebench 10... wtf, like 2:50. My Q6600 needs 52 seconds for that.

I just disabled lots of stuff in bios like prefetching, visualization and stuff and now I get 1:50. Still sucks though, should be 3,5 times as fast.
Also Superpi is way too slow, 22 sec at 3,2Ghz.

Anyone happen to have the phone number of an asus tech rep. ?

Have you tried running the board without the BSEL mod at the default 1333FSB, does the memory run at 667 or 800? It was my understanding that the board would read the SPD and set the 5:6 ratio to hit 800 on the memory, but with the BSEL mod it would set the 1:1 ratio to run at 800. I could be mistaken though.

Daaaamn, I might have to get one of these
"To exist in this vast universe for a speck of time is the great gift of life. Our tiny sliver of time is our gift of life. It is our only life. The universe will go on, indifferent to our brief existence, but while we are here we touch not just part of that vastness, but also the lives around us. Life is the gift each of us has been given. Each life is our own and no one else's. It is precious beyond all counting. It is the greatest value we have. Cherish it for what it truly is."

Do you have the option in BIOS to disable snoop filter? The supermicro boards with harpertowns seem to exhibit poor performance until it is disabled

Also I don't understand how 2 banks of 3 dimms could be quad-channel? How can it run interleaved? Most 5400 chipset boards have 4 banks of 2, or 4 banks of 4. I would like to see some memory benches when you get things sorted out. Thanks.

    Memory read 3356 MB/S
    Memory write 2944 MB/S
you cant run quad channal config with 2 dimm or 4 dimm
    memory in use 6 x 1024Mb Kingston 5-5-5-18
the board dont have snoop filter in bios , if you disable everything in bios the SUPER PI will run fine , with other dual socket 771 the performance in memory is the same ,

    Incorrect.

FB-DIMM's are run in serial which means two dimm's only activates two channels and 4 dimm's are optimal for quad. Using 6 or 8 doubles the latency of the controller due to the serial nature (ask dimm 1: no, ask dimm 2: yes!).

My SuperMicro X7DAL-E has no problems with snoop filter or anything else that i've noticed so far... but I have heard that the Asus ZJS's bios is poorly programmed (which sounds about right going by past experiences with other Asus boards on just about any socket available).

All along the watchtower the watchmen watch the eternal return.

For this reason I may get a Quad FX setup instead of a Q6700, despite being slower.

Yeah, I saw someone selling a Quad-FX setup in the FS forums, and I was pretty tempted to pick it up, even though a quad rig would be better.
