That's because I can't find any vid card other than my half-dead X1900XTX
I'm clocking around right now, I'm in bios at 450 FSB right now

That's it though... FSB 450. FSB 455 won't even post, but what can you expect with barely 1,1V VTT and 1,18V Vcore

So I'm hoping to get FSB 420-430 stable. Can't be asking for more really (at that price)

I sure as hell hope so

Problem is, what am I gonna do next

I don't have any spare HDDs... but I could steeal that 80gig 2,5" from my external HDD I guess.
I don't have a case... but I could run it on the table
I don't have a working GFX card... that one's tough. I'm gonna borrow a PCI card from a friend later.

BTW, I will be installing Windows Server 2008 on it

Yep, bought it straight off the distributor. Seems like I am actually the 1st one to get a retail mobo

PSU is a Cooltek 600W for lack of something better... it does have EPS capabilities though.
But this rig is gonna be VERY energy-efficient. Unbeatable WU-per-Watts ratio, as this will likely drain below 250W fully loaded

250W for 8 cores at 3.2+GHz?!? Woah... that is NICE! How is it doing for $/WU? Compared to a Q6600 that is... I'm guessing that at 3.2GHz it'll be about the same as a 3.3-3.4GHz Q6600. Then again, you're spending half as much for networking, power, storage, and much less space.

That's why I went for this one, not Skulltrail. I don't need SLI for a cruncher

So why is this gonna be so efficient?

    1. The mobo. Small form factor, digial PWM as opposed to ST, advanced powersaving capabilities. No NV chips on it, that alone saves 50W I'd bet

    2. The CPUs. Those 45nm Quads consume about 60W each running BOINC, even when overclocked (1,2V Vcore FTW)

    3. Ram. I only have 2 Dimms installed, more will eat more power

    4. and most important: I will use a very low-powered GFX card

    5. Plan on using a very efficient PSU, probably the net Pro82 by Enermax. Close zo 90% efficiency at 250W and 230V VAC, so I should get even lower than that (we'll see later)

Edit: My Q6600 rig at 4Ghz drains 450W loaded, and that's with only 1 GFX card (which eats about 100W idle though, due to it being voltmodded)

Excellent work and 450FSB is unheard of with DDR2-800FBDimms so either you got the cherry picked memory that the gentleman upstairs gave his personal blessing to, Asus made the power delivery system to the memory so goood they should invite Intel over and give lessons or your an absolute genius!
One suggestion: Don't show anyone with a skulltrail that you hit 450 or they will toss their boards against the wall!

Oh my.. 450FSB. I hope to all things electronic that Asus gives us VTT and VCORE adjustments in BIOS. I don't mind not having SLI, I'm an ATI guy through and through and the lack of "SLI chips/pieces of garbage" will drop power consumption. Time to send Asus and Intel an email or ten

Yeah sorry, had to work a few hours now. Been finishing a customer's PC build
Anyway I couldn't install OS because it kept freezing on me, I suppose that was due to the half-dead vid card.
I slapped my trusty Matrox Mystique 2MB PCI in and it seems to work - gotta love that card, over 13 years old and has never let me down once, still runs in the latest mobos.

Like the 4mb STB/Virge that came in my 1997 Gateway P1-200..still works and was a $40.00 option back then!
