    Intel noob in need of help please

    I just upgraded to X79 3820. What is max safe temps for 24/7 crunching? Everything seems much hotter vs my old AM3 rig. I want to push my system without killing it. I can't wait to upgrade my old Corsair tx650 for a Seasonic 1000w psu to run some 7950 gpu's!

    It might help if you included your resting CPU core temps and your CPU core temps at 100% load. Also, what CPU heatsink/fan combo do you have and what kind of thermal paste are you using? Unless you are watercooling.

    Just Google for: Overclocking i7-3820 & ............) {replace dots with your motherboard's name}

    You will get back quite a few thread and video links. Look for threads from reputable site. You should get one or more that is close to your actual system..

    Good luck...

    I only have a Corsair H50 cooler. My system is a work in progress. I plan to go full water when I get the funds. At 100% load @4.2ghz I'm hitting 70c! I'm asking here because I trust everyone here vs random forums.

    Max safe temp for 24/7, i would say 80C. Beyond that you are near the 90C when it starts throttling.

    80C should be okay, under 70C would be best for max longevity.

    I'm not an expert but in general people would try not to exceed 70C for CPUs and about 80C for GPUs.......then again if lifetime is reduced your parts should still last a good 5-10+ years so you might say "so what if it dies, it'll be obsolete by then anyway"
